This is the best winter salad for potluck meals. Save the dressing for another salad.

5 stars for the poppy seed dressing. Recipe worked well as a base for one's own creativity - you can't spoil this especially with the wonderful poppy seed dressing. The pears in the store were not ripe so I used strawberries - feta cheese - cashews and sliced almonds - mixed spring greens - used more apples than called for and did not peel. Not inexpensive - but great for a crowd - I was serving 17 - with corn chowder and yeast rolls everyone was applauding.

I've made this recipe several times, making alterations after the 1st time. The dressing is perfect as is (make sure to use fresh lemon juice). However we have found that blue cheese and walnuts taste better to us. I give the walnuts a quick "roast" in the microwave (2 minutes)for the best flavor. I make the dressing several hours in advance and coat the fruit with some of it to also set during that time. We like a spring mix instead of romaine, but if that is all I have I've found it works better if you chop it rather finely instead of using Caesar salad sized pieces.

This was delicious! I highly recommend using Feta cheese as it is a stronger cheese and compliments the dressing. The skins I leave on the fruit for an attractive appearance. I use real lemons, not a concentrate for ultimate flavor. I had pecans on hand which went great with the salad but sure cashews would be great also. I used Smart Balance Omega Oil instead of vegetable oil. Thanks for submitting!!!!

This recipe was great! I didn't change a thing. My husband even liked it and normally doesn't usually like salads with fruit. The dressing was fabulous!

Excellent. Is there any ideas to make the dressing lower in fat as a serving of salad is 0ver 200cals.

What a great salad! I chopped up chicken to serve it as a main dish. Really tasty. I might try feta cheese next time instead of swiss. You can't really taste the swiss cheese.

I had this at a party last weekend and for some reason, it really hit all the right notes with me, so I made it at home last night. It's a really great combination; my only quibbles are that the swiss cheese seems a bit pointless, since the mild flavor of swiss gets lost under the tangy dressing, and that the dressing might be a bit too sweet. I think next time I might cut the sugar down a bit, as some other reviewers have suggested, and either skip the cheese or use something with a slightly stronger taste, like sharp cheddar.

This is one of the best salads I have ever had. Made it for Christams and again for New Years Eve. Doubled the dressing to have more for second salad.

This is a beautiful salad for the Christmas dinner table. The lemon dressing tastes perfect- flavorful, light, and complementary. I substituted toasted pine nuts for the cashews and added some chopped celery. Extra dressing keeps well in a covered container in the refrigerator.

I served this on Christmas Eve and it received compliments from everyone seated around the table....I used 1/2 romaine and 1/2 butter lettuce and substituted craisins for the cranberries and blue cheese crumbles for the swiss cheese. The dressing is especially wonderful! This is a definite keeper...my husband has already asked me to make this again soon!

3 "Noms"...as in, Nom Nom Nom. Yum. Made this to go with my ham for Christmas dinner and the flavors were amazing together. I might try a different nut next time, just for curiosity sake, but the cashews were good! I will totally be making this again and again.
