This is honestly one of my favorite salads of all times. I don't like swiss cheese so I shred mozzerella cheese and it's fantastic. I've been making this salad for special family meals for years now and it's always a hit.

This was so refreshing! Thank you! As others suggested I substituted with Feta cheese, pecans and two apples, eliminating the pear. I also think using fresh lemons (4 large for serving 16) gives a very light flavor. Since I was taking it to a church potluck, I cut up my apples the night before, putting them in a canning jar with water and Fruit Fresh. Had lovely white apple pieces to mix up at last minute. Addition: made this again with Jonathon apples and they turned to much overnight. Use a firm, crisp apple! Believe I used Gala or Fuji first time.

I got a lot of compliments when I brought this to a luncheon. I used minced onion instead because I had it in my kitchen and it worked fine. Loved it!!

So delicious! Everyone at our New Year's Eve dinner loved this salad -- especially the dressing. I made the following changes: -only apples, no pears -dried cherries instead of cranberries -pecans instead of cashews -feta instead of Swiss We'll definitely enjoy this at many meals to come!

I made this for Christmas Dinner and it was a huge hit! I was skeptical and feeling crazy for serving it the first time making it to a crowd of people-----but it turned out great and everyone raved about how good it was. Even my very picky salad hater husband liked it. I accidentally left out the cheese and used pecans instead of cashews. My favortie find on All Recipes!!!!!

I have served this several times (always omitting the nuts...just my thing) and EVERYONE always raves. Perfect as a side or a meal with grilled salmon of chicken. I have been asked for this recipe everytime I take it somewhere. It is truly spectacular!!!

I have uses feta cheese which is amazing with the salad, it addes to the flavor rather than take away. I noticed alot of people didnt like the cheese so i would suggest trying feta. as for the apples getting brown if you soak them in lemon water first you wont have that problem.

This recipe is awesome, I loved it :) I have made it twice, the first time I used real lemons in the dressing and the second I time I was out of lemons and had to use concentrated juice from the plastic lemon. Real lemons make a big difference along with leaving the dressing in the fridge to thicken for a couple hours before serving.

I use only the dressing to pour over a fruit salad. It is the most wonderful dressing!

Brought this salad to a carolling party and it was a huge hit. Actually used 3 heads romaine and extra fruit, plenty of dressing. I was so pleased!

I made this exactly as listed with the exception of doubling for 25 people and subbing pecans for cashews (I hate cashews), and it was huge hit at my meeting. In the interest of full discolure, I did have extra dressing, so I might ease off on that next time. I gave it only four stars because it's not one that keeps well as leftovers and I hate to waste.

I had a hard time deciding how to rate this recipe. My kids did not care for it. But then kids are kids and to tell you the truth, I LOVED it. I will only make again for a large group. I did make a small change. I did not pour all the dressing over the salad just enough to taste and keep the apples from turning brown, I put the rest of the dressing on the side to add if desired.

Excellent excellent recipe! Whole family loved it and even when they were already full, they couldn't stop picking at it! Even the bf who hates vegetables ate a big plateful of it, saying, "it doesn't taste like salad so I like it!". Great balance of sugar and lemon juice. Definitely a keeper, definitely will be serving again. I would probably add another 1/2 cup of cashews and toast them as well to make the taste a little more robust. I would also up the number of pears to 2 and the cheese isn't needed. In fact, I think the addition of the cheese really takes away from its "refreshing" character.

An amazing salad!!!! I did not change anything (except that I did not peel the pear and apple) and it was outstanding. I will be making this salad all the time from now on!! **Update** I had to write again about this salad. I have made it non-stop since the first time I reviewed this. I make this salad almost every day either for lunch or a side with dinner. My husband is crazy about it too, which is great since it's not always easy to get him to eat veggies! I double the salad dressing and keep it in a tupperware container in the refrigerator and just treat it as a normal bottle of salad dressing and drizzle on however much I want. Thank you so much for this recipe, it is one of my favorites on this website!!! :)
