I had been looking forward to trying this recipe for a long time, but I was really disappointed. I wasn't even able to finish my salad. The mix of flavors just wasn't for me, I guess.

I will make this tonight! It sounds just like my Mom's recipe! I have memories of picking the lettuce while mom cooked the bacon. Tonight, my boys can pick the lettuce.

Our family devoured this. I used white wine vinegar instead of the regular. I used it for the lettuce I picked from my garden (I had a lot!). It tastes very close to spinach salad.

I think in order to make this wilted you need to keep it warm. I always cook the bacon on a low setting and then remove the pan from the burner & add the liquids. This recipe is just the mixture of the ingredients for wilted lettuce.

It was pretty good but.... DO NOT pour the vinegar, water, etc. in the hot bacon grease. The recipe says to remove from heat but it should say let cool about 5 minutes at least. I let it cool for a couple minutes and that wasn't long enough. It actually exploded and burnt me very badly when I dumped it in the hot grease. Be careful.

Absolutely delicious. I did not put the eggs on the salad, due to time constraint.... but the rest was wonderful. Just the right amount of tartness balanced with the sweetness from the small amount of sugar in it. Will definitely continue using this recipe.
