I love this recipe. The bread turned out perfect and my family ate the whole loaf in five mins. I like to use my bread maker to make the dough and then I cook it in the oven. I do not like how the bread turns out in the maker and the oven it turns out perfect. I cooked it at 350 for 30 mins. Great bread, we will make this one again and again!

I love this recipe and make it at least once a week. We've stopped buying bread at the grocery store altogether. This is especially great for sandwiches and will cut into thin slices well. My only changes are to use 1/8 cup skim milk instead of the milk powder and 2 tbsp of canola oil in place of the shortening.

This turned out really good. I did a few changes, I used white whole wheat flour,by King Arthur, and reduced the honey to 2 table spoons. I took anther reviewers suggestion and baked it using the basic setting and light crust. The bread turned out nice and fluffy. Next time I think I'll reduce the salt to 1 teaspon, it seemed a little satly, but thats just me.

A little bland, but lots of potential. My electricity went out the first time I made it, so it came out all flat, and then the second time I made it (the next day) the top was concave. I think I'm going to just make a loaf and shape it by hand next time, I don't usually use the bread machine to bake, and I'm starting to remember why. I recommend doing the entire rise cycle twice, it really improves the texture for me. I added a handful of rolled oats, 1/4 cup of wheat germ, 1/4 cup of milled flax seed, and 2 tbsp gluten. I think it needs a little more salt.

I used the whole wheat setting on my bread machine and the bread turned out great. The only thing I changed was using 2.5 cups whole wheat flour and 0.5 cup bread flour instead of 3 cups of whole wheat flour. Next time I will probably use 1/4 cup honey instead of 1/3 cup honey, but still a very good recipe.

Despite my many failed efforts at using my bread maker to make bread, this recipe is awesome and came out great. I used 1 cup of white bread flour and 2 cups wheat bread flour, and used butter instead of shortening, and it came out fantastic. Definitely a recipe that I will use again- and soon! THank you for sharing it!

For whole wheat bread, ths was great! I used regular milk instead of milk powder, since I didn't have any, but the milk powder may have made it even better!

I think next time I make it I will add a little more yeast (as others have suggested) and may replace half of the whole wheat flour with white flour.

I used the top reviewer's suggestions (added wheat gluten, baked on basic, light crust) and I got a loaf that had an ok taste but crust was so bad it had to be cut off, and also the consistency was too heavy. I will not make this again but will keep looking for better.

I haven't purchased any bread from the store in a month. We use this as our everyday bread. It is delicious. I followed the recipe exactly.

This my daughters favorite bread. Whenever I try other recipes she always asks if I'm going to still make this one. Have a batch in the machine right now.

I make this once a week for sandwiches. It is soft, tasty and has no high fructose corn syrup like most store bought brands. I use the dough cycle on my bread maker and then bake it in the oven. It comes out perfect every time.

Since I don't have a bread machine, I had to piece together from the reviews how to bake this wonderful, dense bread. It gives us a good alternative bread for breakfast! I baked it at 375 for about 30 minutes or so, but I think next time I'll try 350. I used two tablespoons of vital gluten, but next time I will add one more and maybe a little more yeast.

Fantastic. I subbed 1/2 cup of bread flour instead of using all whole wheat flour, as stated in another review. I did not use any gluten as indicated in some reviews. It came out perfect as is. This is by far the best bread I have made with my bread machine.

Very good bread - light and tasty. I used olive oil instead of shortening, 3 Tbl molasses in place of honey, and 1 tsp salt.

Rated this 4 stars because this bread is BEAUTIFUL, but I did make a couple of modifications. I use canola oil instead of shortening, and I add 3 Tbsp. of vital wheat gluten to my dry ingredients. My husband takes a sandwich every day for lunch and RAVES about this bread. He is sad if I forget to make it and we have to buy bread at the store (at least $5 for something edible! Ridiculous!) This one's a keeper!
