One day, my grandmother and I were planning on making cookies, but she didn't have all-purpose flour. I suggested we use whole wheat flour. The result is a crisp hearty cookie loaded with flavor.

'My grandmother discovered this recipe over 50 years ago,' says Teresa Jarnot of Monroe, Washington. 'When I began baking for weekly church dinners, my mother shared it.' Stir up a big batch and you'll have more than enough for the chocolaty sweets that follow.

My grandchildren would do just about anything for one of these cookies. Packed with chocolate chips and peanuts, they're made with oats and whole wheat flour, so I don't mind them nibbling on them. --Lynore Derkson, Airdrie, Alberta

Gingerbread is an old favorite because it's simple to make. I learned that pioneers served gingerbread with meals, but now it's considered a dessert! Serve hot or cold, with a dollop of whipped or ice cream.

I make these cookies for Thanksgiving and Christmas as presents. Decorating them in the "colors of the season" makes for a nice present. If I just would stop nibbling on them, my presents would be larger :) Cookies are not real sweet, but are soft and moist and perfect for tea.

My friend wanted a less sweet cookie, and this is what I came up with for her. Sweet, but not too sweet.
