We loved this bread! I was concerned about the bitter taste that other reviewers had experienced, but used a mild tasting beer and it came out tasting beautifully! I added a little more brown sugar, 1 Tb honey and poured 1/4 c. melted butter over the batter before baking. It had no ill aftertaste from the baking powder and I used the full amount of Clabber Girl.

Delicious! Used Smithwick's Irish Ale. Not bitter at all, just a very slight beer taste. Poured 1/4 cup melted butter over the top before baking as well. Even better the second day. I made it for St. Paddy's Day and served with honey butter. Will make again and again.

This was great! Didn't change a thing. I used cheap beer like I always do for beer bread(I save the good stuff for drinking):) Yummy! Thanks!

Very bitter. I was hoping for a sweeter taste. I accidently used baking soda instead of baking powder...maybe this is the reason. I'll have to try it again using baking powder.

Even though I used a very light-tasting beer, the bread still came out tasting very bitter.

This is a great recipe, I melted butter to put on top before baking. I also put some flax in mine, just because I try to add flax to things you can not notice it in. I also had made some honey/butter to spread on the bread. This is a much better recipe than the self rising flour recipes. Do not let your beer set to get flat, its the fiz and yeast that make the bread, just open the beer and pour. I won't spend money on Tastfully Simple box again.

Very good. A bit sweet, but each time I've had beer bread it has been sweet. I used Bud Lite and thought it might need to be a bit flat, so I popped the top before I made it. I was impatient, though, and made it about 15 minutes later. I couldn't taste the beer in the bread. I put a few pats of butter on the top of the loaf before I made it, which made the top all crunchy and good. Thanks!

Yum excellent! I did not change a thing, except reduce salt to 1 tsp and add 2 tbsp of melted butter during the last 20 min of cooking. Used a Speights Ale (I'm in NZ), not a very flash beer and the flavour was perfect, not too "beery" or bitter in the slightest.

Yummy! I was looking for an alternative to cornbread to go with our soup for dinner. At first my husband wasn't sure about the texture. But then he got the idea to mix honey with butter and put on the bread. Oh my goodness! That is good :) I did add a bit more brown sugar to make sure it balanced with the bitterness of the beer. I think depending on the style and brand of beer, the brown sugar amount needed could vary. It was nice to be able to taste both the beer and brown sugar in the final result. Very tasty.

I used Samuel Adams Cherry-Wheat beer. Did not like the dense texture and the bitterness of the beer was too strong. May try again with a lighter beer.

Really good and easy. Used king arthur "white" whole wheat flour for all the flour (3 cups.) Also used Heffeweizen beer. Topped with 2 tbls. melted butter and used convection toaster oven at 325 for about 35 - 40 minutes. Came out moist and flavorful. If top starts to brown too much before it is done tent a bit with aluminum foil.

THIS WAS OK. I NEEDED HEARTY BREAD FOR BEAN SOUP MY HUSBAND MADE. I USED A DARK BEER (THAT MAY ACCOUNT FOR THE BITTER AFTER TASTE) THE TEXTURE & TASTE WAS MORE LIKE BANANA BREAD, WITH OUT THE BANANAS. I WOULD NOT MAKE THIS AGAIN.

Very attractive, rustic looking bread that betrays the minimal effort that went into it. Surprisingly delicious, and I'm looking forward to making it again with variations--dill and a handful of shredded Cheddar cheese, or maybe herbs or Italian seasoning. It was a tasty acccompaniment to the Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup. However, both my friend and I thought it was a little on the salty side, so I think next time I'll reduce the salt to 1 tsp., and use 1/4 cup of UNsalted melted butter over the top rather than salted. All in all, a lovely bread I'll be happy to make again, and not just because it's easy and produces a loaf of bread in under an hour. Great recipe, and a pleasant surprise!
