These are a breeze to make. My girlfriend and I found them very easy to prepare and absolutely delicious. (Oh, and the dog devoured one, much to his delight!!) Because these are healthy, they keep you fuller for much longer than your average waffle or french toast breakfast, giving you a lasting feeling of satiety. Next time, we are gonna sprinkle in some chopped walnuts and/or pecans. Yummy!!!

Wow! Surprisingly delicious - light, crispy, and really good for you! I didn't even feel bad using syrup b/c they were so good for me. (I love syrup despite the sugar content!) Great idea from other reviewer about adding mashed fruit/sweet potato for more variations.

Exceptional! To make & serve something healthy that my whole family loves is very satisfying. I made a few changes. I used buttermilk, ww flour, replaced some flour with cornstarch for more crispy waffles, doubled the recipe but not the baking powder, separated the eggs and folded in the whites at the end and much to our delight used a belgian waffle maker-they turned out wonderful! Loved these-better than any recipe we've tried!

My 4 year old has eaten a waffle every morning for at least 2 years, so I wanted to find a good whole grain waffle (that I could make cheaper than the store brands). This recipe was SO GOOD just as it is. But, to maximize the health benefits, I used 2% milk (to give my toddlers a little extra fat), a full 1/2 cup all natural applesauce while deleting the canola oil, used a full 3/4 flax seed while deleting the wheat germ ( I just didn't have any), and adding 1/2 cup puree'd sweet potatoes (this idea from Jessica Seinfeld's "Deceptively Delicious" book). My kids LOVE them! And, they are so filling! They can barely finish one full one when they used to eat two store-bought. I also double the batch and make them in bulk. I pop them in the freezer and cook one each morning in the toaster. A double batch lasts me about a month. Great recipe!

A great recipe that I'll add to my keep folder! I used whole wheat all purpose instead of whole wheat pastry flour. I also added an extra 1/2 cup to thicken the batter for pancake consistency instead of waffle consistency. The pancakes are very filling and a little goes a long way.

This is a great recipe! I've made it a couple of times now and have found it to be very adaptable. One time, I added cinnamon and nutmeg and used cinnamon applesauce instead of unsweetened (I did cut back on the amount of sugar I put in though). The smell was heavenly. Another time, I didn't have applesauce on hand so I used mashed bananas and added finely chopped pecans for a "banana nut waffle"...yummy! This recipe is a keeper and my family loves this healthier waffle!

These waffles are fantastic! My husband and five children all loved them. I made them just like the recipe stated except that I separated the eggs and whipped the whites, then folded them in at the end. They were so light and fluffy and such a nice nutty flavor. We served them with fresh strawberries and whipped cream and skipped the syrup, Yummy!

This is an excellent waffle recipe. I didn't have flax seed meal so I increased the flour and added a 1/4 cup oatmeal. Next time I'm going to add some cinnamon to add a little extra flavor.

These were really good. I was expecting them to be as heavy as bricks, but they were surprisingly light. I accidentally grabbed oat bran instead of wheat germ and didn't notice until I dumped it in, but it was still really good. Thank you.

Made these for breakfast this morning and they were excellent. They had great flavor and were so crispy and light at the same time. My kids wanted seconds so I know they were good! The only thing I changed was using oat flour in place of ww pastry flour as I was out. Will use this recipe again and again.

Not a bad recipe. The leftovers freeze nicely and are easily warmed up in the toaster for a later date.

Great job, "What A Dish!" Really wonderful! The kids loved them. I was out of applesauce, but pear-strawberry baby food worked perfectly. I bet other fruit purees would be worth trying! I also doubled the vanilla, and light olive oil was an indetectable stand-in for canola. Serving size is off, though: 5 of my young kids inhaled the single recipe, and I had to whip up another batch. Serving size is three at the most. Final note: I needed to GENEROUSLY oil my "non-stick" Belgian waffle iron; cooking spray on my iron is not enough =)

These waffles were GREAT! Light and fluffy inside with just enough crispiness on the outside. My batter made 9 small waffles. This would be a great, quick way to get kids to eat whole wheat. I had no wheat germ so I used wheat bran instead.

These are very good; I do use all applesauce instead of oil, but everything else I do exactly as written - this also makes a ton of waffles, we toast them and bring them in the car on the way to school. I love having healthy breakfasts with all that fiber and protein and a great taste - thanks!

Love the flavor of these. That was even after reading the reviews and realizing I TOTALLY messed up the recipe. I completely left out the white flour and instead used only a total of 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (on accident). Gee! Anyway, on purpose I Left out the oil and used a total of 3/4 cup flax meal. I DEFINITELY needed cooking spray on the waffle iron to make sure they released, and took a "long" time to cook. YUM!!! Maybe I will try it again the "right" way and see if they are even better. LOL.
