I love these waffles! Like others I omitted the oil and increased the applesauce to 1/2 cup, used egg substitute in place of the eggs and added 1 tsp. cinnamon. I have also tried this recipe with 1/2 cup canned pumpkin instead of applesauce and 1/2 mashed bananas instead of the applesauce. The pumpkin waffles were good, but you couldn't taste the pumpkin as much as I would have liked. The banana waffles, however, were amazing! They had a great texture and wonderful banana flavor! My only suggestion for making these waffles without any oil is to make sure your waffle iron is non-stick or greased with a little cooking spray or they will stick. Thanks for the recipe! It is definitely a keeper in my house!!

My children did not care for these waffles. I think it may have been the applesauce in them, but I'm not sure. They usually eat whole wheat stuff, so I don't know why they didn't like these.

Taste was excellant. Any advice on why mine came out a little soft? I cooked them in a Belgium style waffle iron... could that be it? When i toasted the frozen leftovers, they were perfect!

I added blueberries to this recipe and I don't think it worked out. The waffles didn't come out light and crisp on the outside. They tasted pretty good, could really taste the flax. I prefer a different texture to my waffles. These ones were kind of limp.

I use this recipe all the time! I stopped buying frozen waffles for my family and make this recipe in batches for the weekend. They freeze great and just pop into the toaster oven. It is also a great recipe to play around with. I've substituted the apple sauce with banana, pumpkin and other fruit. It really makes a nice base recipe to start from. Yum! We love them and they're healthy!

Very easy to make, though it did take a while to find all the ingredients.

These are very good - no one notices how healthy they are! I don't generally have wheat germ, so I just use extra whole wheat flour instead. I love the texture and the taste, and they fill you up!

very nice. easy to add all the "whatevers" (like oat bran, wheat bran, vegetable purees, etc) and always turns out great. thanks for a healthy breakfast!

My children, husband and I all enjoyed these! I didn't have wheat germ so I just added extra flax seed - I also used all whole wheat! A Keeper for sure.

Absolutely awesome recipe. Crispy and light. I did not have wheat germ, so substituted oat bran instead. Also, separated the yolks from whites and beat the whites stiff and folded into the batter at the end. I will likely never make a different waffle again.

Yum, yum, yum! I can not say enough good about this recipe! I used canned pumpkin in place of the applesauce, and cut out the oil all together. I also added some cinnamon. They turned out AWESOME! the flavor and the texture are both perfect. Even members of my family who shy away from whole grain things couldn't resist them. I doubled the recipe and froze what was left over to use as toaster waffles (though they didn't last long!) A much cheaper and healthier alternative to the frozen waffles you buy at the store.

These are SOOO good! I love the flavor, I think it was the flaxseed that gave them such a distinct flavor. They were soft and moist... and DELICIOUS!

This is much thinner than my normal recipe. I should have known that when I opened the waffle iron, I would have part stuck to the top, and part stuck to the bottom! I added an extra 1/2 cup flour, and the problem was gone! Good taste, texture, and healthy goodness!

These are absolutely the best waffles my husband and I have eaten. Don't let the "whole grain" part scare you, these are so light and fluffy. I make a double batch and freeze them. When you want to eat them put them in the toaster oven @ 350 degrees for 3-5 minutes and they are soooo good! This is the only waffle recipe I use.

Yum! I looked up a recipe 20 minutes ago because it's hot and I didn't really want to cook, and I've already eaten my first waffle! I substituted plain yogurt for the applesauce and omitted the wheat germ and they were still delicious- very filling AND tasty. I will definitely make again! Thanks!

These are really good whole grain waffles. I left out the flax, and substited wheat germ because I like the taste of wheat not flax.

This recipe will be one I make often I can tell. I used 1/2 cup applesauce and omitted the oil and it worked just fine. I didn't have WW pastry flour, so I used WW flour. I used 1/2 cup wheat germ and 1/4 flax instead of the opposite as the recipe calls. My kids, ages 5 and 4, gobbled these up! The leftovers went into the freezer for grab and go freezer waffles (goodbye Eggo!)

These are very good. The only thing I changed was I used all applesauce in place of the oil and I used half milk and half half-n-half. I added blueberries, but think they would be really good with chocolate chips. ;-) The only problem I had with them is that they were very soft so a bit hard to get out of the waffle iron. Thanks for a yummy recipe.

I loved these waffles! They were full of flavour and really healthy. I doubled the batch (which ended up making wayyy too much for future notice..) and used 2 eggs and 2 egg whites and only used half the amount of oil and substituted it with more applesauce. I also used olive oil instead of canola for added health benefits. Will make often as my waffle regular waffle recipe! I made the fast blueberry sauce from this website but used mixed berries instead of just blueberries.
