This recipe was fantastic. I'm always tweaking recipes for additional health benefits especially if undetectable by the family. I used extra virgin coconut oil for the oil. Not only do you get the health benefits but it adds a nice almost undetectable flavor unlike canola oil which adds nothing to the flavor. I used stevia for the sugar and a dark amber agave nectar for the syrup. Amber agave has a maple syrup flavor unlike the lighter color agaves. For those unfamiliar with Agave, it is a natural plant product that has a low glycemic index, safe for diabetics.

These are great!!! They are easy, filling, yummy, and healthy! I added a coupe of tsp of cinnamon but other than that stuck to the recipe and they were wonderful. My husband loved them, as well as my sister, and my one year old too. This recipe is a keeper for sure.

This was great! My husband and I are on weight watchers. We substituted the eggs with egg whites, half the oil with applesauce and made these 2pt waffles =) Which is amazing around our house! Thanks for the great recipe!

Great tasting waffles!! Thought they were way better than any "unhealthy" ones I've tried. I didn't have flax seed or wheat germ so used ground oatmeal. I also sprinkled some dried fruit on top of the uncooked waffles - the fruit baked in nicely and added a wonderful flavor. Try this recipe - you won't be disappointed.

Really tasty waffles. I used oatmeal instead of wheat germ, as another reviewer suggested. At the end I threw in some chocolate chips for the kids. YUM!

Very tasty! I used regular whole wheat flour, half butter/half vegetable oil, and almond milk in place of the skim. I cooked them in a Belgium Waffle maker and they turned out with a slight crisp to the edges...delicious. Next time I'll make more, add whole flax seeds, no butter and freeze to eat for breakfast during the week!

I was craving cranberries, decided to make waffles and found this recipe. Added chopped cranberries to the batter and also topped with cooked, chopped cranberries and toasted walnuts. Did not want to buy WW pastry flour just for this, so used regular WW flour. Otherwise kept to the recipe exactly. Cooked soft and not crispy, but DELICIOUS!!! Very filling and healthy. I loved these.

You don't understand, my husband and 4 boys, all under age 5, can't stand anything that even resembles anything healthy. But they sure did love these waffles, with no added powered sugar on top, nor any syrup. These waffles are absolutely delicious. I made two batches of these waffles, the first batch I made exactlly like the recipe called for. The second batch I made some slight changes: instead of the wheat germ, I replaced it with oatmeal, I replaced the white sugar for brown sugar, I added 1/2 cup of blueberries(thawed and drained), and added about 2 TB more of milk to make it thinner for easier pouring. And I didn't spray or add any oil to the waffle plate. This second batch didn't stick at all, and they tasted like gourmet restaurant waffles. Thank you for this healthy and delicious recipe.

Delicious! I had to substitute ground oatmeal for the wheat germ and grape seed oil for the canola because that is what I had on hand. The recipe I have used for years has you separate the eggs and whip the egg whites. I may try that with this recipe next time, but it is not necessary. Thanks for sharing this!

I don't hand out many five-star reviews, but this is undoubtedly a five-star recipe. These waffles are effing righteous, especially with blueberries added to the batter. Pair it with some veggie bacon and a glass of juice, and you'll be gettin' your breakfast on PROPER. Healthy, too.

My 7 kids, husband and I LOVE this recipe. We now make a triple batch and toast the leftovers the next morning. I had to substitute mostly white flour today, and it's really much better using the whole wheat.
