Love the flavor of these. That was even after reading the reviews and realizing I TOTALLY messed up the recipe. I completely left out the white flour and instead used only a total of 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (on accident). Gee! Anyway, on purpose I Left out the oil and used a total of 3/4 cup flax meal. I DEFINITELY needed cooking spray on the waffle iron to make sure they released, and took a "long" time to cook. YUM!!! Maybe I will try it again the "right" way and see if they are even better. LOL.

This is just a super waffle recipe. Judging from other reviewer's comments it seems to be able to withstand any number of alterations. I stayed pretty close to the original, making only 3 changes. I substituted a banana for the applesauce and added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Since many other reviewers mentioned that the batter was thin, I decreased the milk to 1-1/2 C. I also turned my waffle iron up one notch as some others had mentioned that the finished product didn't come out as crispy as they would have liked. I think the next time that I will add some ground nuts to the batter just because I love them! I froze our leftovers and warmed some the next day by defrosting about 20 seconds in the microwave and then rewarming in the waffle iron on a low setting. They tasted just as good as they did the first day. I don't think I'll ever make plain waffles again! Thanks for a great recipe.

I was skeptical because I love waffles and I wasn't sure how this would turn out but they are great. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a healthy alternative for waffles.

I've been making this recipe for quite some time and the only substitutions I make is to use 2T brown sugar for the sugar and use cinnamon applesauce. This is an awesome recipe!

Wowza, these are delicious. My husband usually requires butter on his waffles - not this time! What a healthy alternative. I had no germ on hand so I subbed additional flax/flour. I served with a strawberry puree...yum.

Excellent! Halfway through prep I discovered I was out of WW pastry flour and substituted oat bran flour. We all loved them. Great recipe, thanks for sharing it with us.

The flavor was delicious, but mine didn't turn out crisp on the outside like it should. It had the texture of a pancake. I'm giving it 4 stars for flavor. If the texture was there, it would have been 5 stars.

I had a recipe for waffles that I didn't think I could top, but I like this one even better and it is healthier too! My whole family loved these, even my anti health food husband! These were so good topped with fresh peaches and blueberries. I made these changes to the recipe: I seperated the eggs and whipped the whites with a pinch of cream of tarter until they formed stiff peaks and then stirred the whites into the mix at the very end. I replaced the applesauce with a mashed banana which gave these a great flavor. I substituted white all purpose flour for the whole wheat pastry flour because I wasn't sure what pastry flour was, I added 2 T cornmeal and took away 2T of the flour. used 1/4 cup of oatmeal in place of the all purpose flour. I substituted 2-3 T honey for the sugar.

I have been looking for a great whole grain waffle recipe and this one is it! All I added differently was a handful of crushed walnuts. This recipe is definitely a keeper. Better than any whole grain recipe I've ever had.

Great! just mede a few alterations ´cause I don´t eat white flour or sugar: 1. instead of the all-pourpose flour I use 1/4 cup quick cooking oats, wich gives a really nice texture 2. instead of the oil, I use 1 large, very ripe banana, sometimes I use 2 bananas, to give delicious flavor, cut the oil and gives the sweetness it needs, no sugar added after these. 3. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, you know, cinnamon and bananas goes so well. 4. Even healthier? substitute the eggs for Egg Beatter! I do the batter in my food processor, it´s so quickly. I love to eat this topped with fruit yougurt and honey, you eat two and get full for the entire morning.

So healthy and delicious! I used only 1/4 cup flaxseed and increased the whole wheat flour by 1/4 cup and added an extra tablespoon of brown sugar. My family gobbled them up and enjoyed them a lot! Thanks for the great post!
