Terrific brownies! The best homemade recipe I've found so far. Defiantly double it to make an 8x8 pan. They're really good with some caramel drizzled on top.

Pretty darn good. Nice chocolate flavor (my guy commented on that after 2 bites). It's a great recipe because you probably have all of the ingredients in the cupboard. Now that I've said that, had to sub margarine for the shortening because no shortening in cupboard! I added 1/2 of a banana (mashed) as many people mentioned the recipe came out dry. We did not think it was dry. It did come out cakelike. Still, they were all gone by the next day and I did double it. This recipe is a keeper. Nice to be able to make brownies without special expensive ingredients. (Such as chocolate chips or fudge syrup.) This one stays in the recipe box and we will surely make it again.

good for a chocolate fix. i omitted the walnuts. felt like something was missing though. doubled the recipe but had to cook ten minutes longer than was stated. that may just be my oven. batter was very thick, ended up having to use hands to press/ spread into the pan. would make again. maybe add some chocolate chip to them or frost the top.

I'm eating a warm one as I type this...Pretty good...walnuts would have been good..but I didn't have any at home. I do appreciate that its a recipe that calls for everything you have in your cabinet. Very basic...I like that.

I was looking for a dairy free brownie for my daughter's birthday, and decided to try these...I'm so glad I did!!! We didn't put in the walnuts, and they were perfect! I am going to triple the recipe (or quadruple!) today for my birthday, and I'm so excited! What a timeless recipe!

I was not impressed with these brownies in the least. They did not seem like brownies to me as they were not chewy or moist (like I would think brownies should be) and were dry and cakey. Will not make this again

I made these twice, exactly as written. The first time, I made enough batter for a single batch (baked in a loaf pan) and found the final product to be just a little thinner and drier than I like. The second time, I baked a double batch (in an 8x8 square pan) and was thrilled with the results.

This recipe turned out fantastic!! Although, I did substitute the shortening for butter and added a little extra just to make sure it isn't dry!
