Great base recipe! Good flavor, not too sweet. Walnuts provided great crunch. Served warm with freshly whipped creme and a sprinkle of nutmeg. I did change recipe a bit to reflect my style of cooking...in lieu of 2 c. flour, used 1 c. whole wheat flour, 1/2 c. unbleached flour and 1/2 c. oatmeal. Also added 2 c. + more apples (to make it deep dish style) and 2 tsp. apple pie spice in addition to the cinnamon to give a bit more spice. Made for a sorority meeting dessert and received many compliments! Those attending wanted the recipe to take home!

Fairly quick to assemble--and even quicker to eat! I made this for an impromptu dinner party, and it was a hit. We served it with vanilla ice cream. My husband had seconds (and he's particular about desserts) This will become a regular part of my dessert repertoire.

This was so good!! The only change I made was to use pecans instead of walnuts because it's what I had on hand. Delicious!!

Delicious and so easy! I used McIntosh apples and pecans instead of walnuts because that is what I had. I would definitely make this for company!

This was pretty good I must say. I added some nutmeg to the mix just for extra flavor! It was a nice treat to eat on a cold day!

Yum! I was looking for an alternate to apple crisp and found this. It was wonderful! I followed the recipe (half) exactly except for adding some extra spices. I used gala apples (because that is what I had) and topped with whipped cream. Might add extra walnuts next time, but this is definitely a 'keeper'! I would caution to make sure you cook it long enough, I had a small spot in the middle that was a little underdone.

Loved this recipe. Simple and delicious. My family is requesting I make it for Thanksgiving instead of apple pie.

I served this for the first time to a very finicky couple and they loved it. It is our new family favorite. I did add a little apple pie spice for more flavor. Very easy to make.

Tart apples were a little too tart for my taste... I prefer sweeter things.

We were having company for dinner and wanted to try a new apple dessert. This was a fast and easy recipe. And it was a great hit. I warmed it in the oven while we were eating and served it with Vanilla Ice Cream. I will definitely be making this again.

Actually I'd give it about a 3 1/2 stars. Needs more spices besides just cinnamon.

This is one of the easiest and best tasting desserts I've ever made! I've become famous for it. Everyone always wants me to make it. I love it too because it's easy, inexpensive and looks/tastes impressive. Also you can varry it a little and it still turns out great. I usually cut the recipe in half and use whatever apples I have on hand. It's also great with whip cream.
