Bacon is the star. It 's browned and crumbled and all the other ingredients are lightly sauteed in the bacon drippings - onion, garlic, vinegar, and shredded cabbage. Serve warm.

Cabbage, carrot and bell pepper are marinated in a light dressing, and tossed with fresh crumbled bacon just before serving. One of our favorite summer salads. To make it easy, I use a food processor for the shredding.

Shredded cabbage, carrots, mayonnaise, green onion and a bit of salt and pepper to finish. If you like you can add other ingredients, whatever you think will compliment and that you find in your pantry. Try a dash of curry powder, you might like it.

'This crisp, fresh-tasting slaw keeps in the fridge for several days,' notes Deborah Moore-Dedenbach from Big Bay, Michigan. It's a bargain, too, at 13 cents a serving. 'We live about an hour from the nearest major city, so shopping trips can be few and far between. I often buy cabbage rather than lettuce for salads, because it stores longer,' Deborah says.

Cabbage Salad with Lemon-Garlic Dressing

This recipe was given me by my aunt, who loves Mediterranean cooking. A delicious, refreshing salad made from shredded cabbage and a dressing made from lemon, garlic, olive oil, and cilantro. The proportions I listed will at least start you out with a dressing that's not too strong, but feel free to play around with them. This salad is more of an art than a science.

Japanese-Style Cabbage Salad

This fabulous salad recipe is comparable to what is served in Japanese restaurants. It's vegan and tastes great! It goes well with traditional Japanese foods and also with American foods instead of coleslaw.
