Cooked this for a party - people got 2nds and 3rds until it was completely gone. It made my Mexican friend homesick though because it was similar but not quite like home-style due to ingredients not available in the US.

I have made this for years, so I figured it was time to rate it. :) I always get rave reviews. I throw some sliced up flour tortillas in the oven at about 400 for a few mintues to serve with the soup. Delicious.

This is absolutely the best soup I've ever had. My entire family loves it! I make a few enhancements as noted by previous cooks...I add: one or two cans of black beans, 2 T. cumin, fresh pepper and onion instead of frozen, two veggie cubes (Knorr), fresh cilantro, the juice from one lime, and (only) ONE chipotle pepper from a can. I puree the soup somewhat before adding corn and black beans.

This has practically become a staple in our home. The kids love it right along with me. I use fresh onions and Trader Joe's frozen tri-color pepper strips (I chop them up a bit); I add a can of rinsed black beans. And I also use the Trader Joes frozen roasted corn - very yummy. Last time I made it I tried using Rotel tomatoes with chilis (and omitted the 3 cans of chilis) which I pureed first; it made the soup spicier - good for me, not for the faint of heart.

This was SOOO good! As suggested by others, I added a can of black beans, cut down the cumin to about 1.5T and only had one can of peppers on hand, so that's what I added. The only suggestion I have is that it needs more veggies (celery, carrots maybe?). It's good stuff!

It's the best tortilla soup recipe I've found. I used fresh veggies instead of frozen, and added a little extra vegetable bouillon and red pepper for flavor. I'm making it tonight for the third time. It's even better left over for lunch the next day!

I loved this recipe. I used fresh onion and red pepper because that is what I had on hand. I also added some red pepper flake because I love HOT food. And I added Black beans for some protein. Very flavorful and healthy. LOVED IT. PS: I think if you didn't add the broth this would make an awesome corn and black bean salsa. I am gonna try it.

So good and authentic. I also added black beans and cilantro and used fresh onion, peppers and corn. Easy and delish.

So delicious. I used an immersion blender so it wouldn't be so chunky. Add black beans and rice and it tastes just like the Mexican gumbo from Qdoba.

I adore this soup!! I make a huge batch of it about every week and a half (and there's only 2 of us who eat it). I do add pinto or black beans, as well as 1/4 cup lime juice, and the latter really makes the soup exceptional. If I got this at a restaurant, I would go back again and again.

Love, love, love this soup! I change it up a little bit (not vegetarian), I add chicken to make it more filling (cook it before adding the peppers and onions) and I use fresh peppers and onions instead of frozen. Also I use OXO chicken bouillion powder dissolved in water for the broth, and diced tomatoes instead of crushed. And instead of the green chilies, I use dried red chili peppers. I top it with cheese, sour cream, and green onions. Love the idea of avocados, but just haven't had them on hand.

I made this according to recipe, and everybody at my art group LOVED it :) It was delicious and every bit as good, if not better, than chicken tortilla soups I've had in the past - The avocado is HIGHLY recommended, as is lots of cheese if you aren't vegan - keeps in the fridge really well too :) Thanks!
