Original Recipe Yield 4 dozen
 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In large bowl, cream together the shortening, sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla. Stir until well blended. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt. Add to egg mixture and mix well. Cover and chill for 4 hours.
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease baking sheets.
  3. Roll out dough on a floured surface to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out cookies with round cookie cutter and place 1 inch apart on cookie sheets.
  4. Bake 18 to 20 minutes until lightly colored. Cool on wire racks.
