Directions

  1. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
  2. Melt butter in skillet over medium-high heat. Dip bread slices in egg mixture and brown each side in skillet. Serve with maple syrup.

First, this recipe has all the ingredients that I use when making french toast. However, it did have more sugar (I used Truvia) and MUCH more vanilla, but then, it is "vanilla" french toast. And we loved the additional vanilla. This is an excellent recipe for basic french toast.

REALLY heavy vanilla taste which, surprisingly, bothered us. It made a good Sunday morning breakfast but I probably won't make it again.

I used light brown sugar in this recipe and increased the cinnamon a bit. I did need a little more butter than called for. I served this with homemade maple-vanilla pancake syrup. The kids inhaled this, they ate every single piece. They asked if I could make this again tomorrow.

Some recipes bring back wonderful childhood memories and this is one of those recipes! My Mom made the most wonderful French Toast and this recipe is spot on...I guess that's why the classics never die! Crisp, light, fluffy and just plain delicious these were perfect for Sunday breakfast topped with REAL maple syrup. I served these with fresh fruit and OJ for a great start to the day!

My family and I love this recipe. I've made it a couple of times now and have to double it. I made it according to the recipe the first time and it was great. This time, I tried combining some french vanilla creamer with the milk, and that was really good too. Thanks for this - it's our go to recipe for french toast.
