'I made changes to a barbecue sauce recipe to meet my family's taste,' writes Cheryl Crowson, Sundance, Wyoming. 'When we needed a quick appetizer for a get-together, I tried the sauce over prepared meatballs, and everyone enjoyed it.'

This is a very old sweet and sour cocktail recipe; I remember looking forward to it as a kid at my Mom's holiday parties. It will look horrible and smell worse when first in the pan, but just wait. Don't ever tell what's in the sauce until after your guests have tasted it (otherwise they'll never try it). Serve with toothpicks; keep warm with a fondue pot. The sauce is kind of sweet, kind of sour, but not like Chinese food.

These meatballs, baked in a well-seasoned sauce, are always on the menu for our family's informal Christmas Eve get-togethers. Leftovers-- if there are any-- are a cinch to reheat in a slow cooker.

I often serve these meatballs as an appetizer at parties or over steamed rice as a main entree for dinner.
