My husband is more of a picky eater than myself, so finding different ways to cook things can sometimes lead to making pretty much the same thing every night, so this recipe is a nice variation of "the same thing every night" and it's delicious, too. =) I used already baked potatoes for mashed potatoes, (because I had some baked potatoes on hand that I wanted to use, and because baked mashed potatoes are delicious!) I scooped the potato out of the skin, adding a little milk, sour cream, butter, salt, pepper, a little garlic & onion powder, and a little dollop of Ranch dressing. Whipped until just slightly creamy with a hand mixer, then folded the rest more thoroughly by hand, otherwise, it will turn into glue if mixed TOO much! I used French fries instead of tater tots, because that's what I had on hand. I deep fried the fries in hot oil until crispy golden. I replaced the cream of mushroom soup with golden mushroom, because it's more flavorful, and added one can of cream of potato soup, because I don't think one can of soup is enough. Added one can of mixed veggies, and topped off with the baked mashed potatoes and a mix of 3 different cheeses. Good comfort food!

I am always looking for different things to try because of how picky my kids are. I tried this and my kids loved it. Any more recipes Cindy?

This recipe was so good! I'm a novice cook and my boyfriend has been my willing guinea pig and we absolutely loved it. I changed it up a little and it worked great and cut back cooking time, here's what I did: I cooked the tater tots for 10 minutes at 425 then smashed them on the bottom of the pan. I cooked the meat with minced onions, then stirred it in with the frozen corn, a can of cream of chicken soup, pepper and garlic salt. Then I made instant potatoes (save time) and mixed in a half cup of sour cream, some dried chives, onion and garlic powders and butter. I spread that on top. Then sprinkled a healthy dose of casserole cheese on top (a mixture of 4 cheeses) and baked uncovered on 415 for 20 minutes. The whole process only took maybe 40 minutes and tasted wonderful!

My Family loves this recipe, we have it at least once a month. The taters on the bottom make it so good. Easy to make. I sometimes add corn with the green beans. I also leave out the cheese sometimes and put a little butter on the top.

When I cooked the meat I added chopped onions and garlic. Instead of cream of mushroom, I used cream of chicken and corn instead of beans. My husband loved it!

The guys loved it. There were only three of us eating and we finished off the whole thing that night. I didn't give it five stars because it wasn't something I'd pay for at a restaurant but I'd make it again if I had the ingredients around.

I kept this simple with corn, but the tatertots make it a winner with the family

a perfect dinner when you have a hectic schedule but dont want to eat fast food. i used simply potatoes chive and sour cream flavored mashed potatoes. i am sure it is much better w/ homemade mashed pots but i needed a shortcut. i also added some soy sauce, worcestershire, cayenne, onion powder, and garlic powder instead of garlic salt. i used half of a bag of frozen mixed veggies(because thats what i had).
