This recipe was so good! I'm a novice cook and my boyfriend has been my willing guinea pig and we absolutely loved it. I changed it up a little and it worked great and cut back cooking time, here's what I did: I cooked the tater tots for 10 minutes at 425 then smashed them on the bottom of the pan. I cooked the meat with minced onions, then stirred it in with the frozen corn, a can of cream of chicken soup, pepper and garlic salt. Then I made instant potatoes (save time) and mixed in a half cup of sour cream, some dried chives, onion and garlic powders and butter. I spread that on top. Then sprinkled a healthy dose of casserole cheese on top (a mixture of 4 cheeses) and baked uncovered on 415 for 20 minutes. The whole process only took maybe 40 minutes and tasted wonderful!

My Family loves this recipe, we have it at least once a month. The taters on the bottom make it so good. Easy to make. I sometimes add corn with the green beans. I also leave out the cheese sometimes and put a little butter on the top.

When I cooked the meat I added chopped onions and garlic. Instead of cream of mushroom, I used cream of chicken and corn instead of beans. My husband loved it!

The guys loved it. There were only three of us eating and we finished off the whole thing that night. I didn't give it five stars because it wasn't something I'd pay for at a restaurant but I'd make it again if I had the ingredients around.

I kept this simple with corn, but the tatertots make it a winner with the family

a perfect dinner when you have a hectic schedule but dont want to eat fast food. i used simply potatoes chive and sour cream flavored mashed potatoes. i am sure it is much better w/ homemade mashed pots but i needed a shortcut. i also added some soy sauce, worcestershire, cayenne, onion powder, and garlic powder instead of garlic salt. i used half of a bag of frozen mixed veggies(because thats what i had).

This was good, but not GREAT. My husband liked it more than the kids, which I was sure was going to be the other way around. I gave it a 3 because although it is edible, I don't think I will make it again. There are other dishes out there that I would rather put in my dinner rotation.

What a wonderful change of pace for shepherd's pie. I made this last night in honor of St. Patty's Day. This is a VERY KID-FRIENDLY recipe. I used cream of chicken soup rather than mushroom and mixed veggies rather than plain beans. If you brown the ground beef the night before and use prepared mashed potatoes (Country Crock other other brand) it makes for a very easy after work dinner. I will definitely make this again.

I didn't actually follow this recipe, but I did take your idea for a bottom layer of tater tots, which was fantastic! thanks for the idea.

This recipe was just okay. Tasted like a typical casserole not what I was expected. Probably won't make it again.

Simple yet surprisingly delicious and super easy! I bake the tater tots in the pan while I am cooking up the hamburger and getting stuff ready. I also use 2 cans of mushroom soup and add extra homemade mashed potatoes on top to stretch the recipe out further.

Fantastic recipe. My whole family liked it, even my picky 6 year old son. I added more seasoning, such as seasoning salt and onions but you can adjust it however you would like. Very easy and lots of left overs!

My kids and I really like this, my husband thought it was just okay. I made several changes: lower fat/salt cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom; one half of a large onion diced and cooked with the ground round; one pound of meat instead of one and 1/2 pounds; omitted green beans (my six year old won't eat them) and added in frozen chopped spinach (which I told her was basil!). I mixed the spinach in with the beef and onion. I used cilantro, basil, and coarse ground black pepper as I cooked the meat. I pre-baked the tater tots for fifteen minutes on 425, until they were soft, but not completely done, to cut down on cooking time. I made mashed potatoes the way I usually do, with about half the skins still on, mashed with butter, sour cream, fresh chives, parsley, onion and garlic powder. I baked this for fifteen minutes on 425 rather than 40 minutes on 350. This was very flavorful and only a small piece was left over when the meal was done. If I wasn't cooking for my kids, I'd have left in the green beans, and would have added in mushrooms, cayenne pepper, and other spices. Thanks for a great recipe.

I did like the layers of this dish however, it was very dry and I even used less hamburger then it called for. I will make it again but will need to add a little more moisture somehow.
