Black beans are soaked overnight then simmered with a smoked ham bone and vegetables and flavored with a hint of sherry.

Brown Bean Chowder

This bean chowder is similar to chili. It's one of the most popular dishes at Tulsa Public Schools. Those of us growing up in the 60's and 70's remember it fondly as a favorite treat. A real stick-to-your-ribs comfort food. Tradition dictates that it is served with cinnamon rolls. This was given to me by my grandmother who was a dietician/cook for over 40 years.

Luscious Lima Bean Soup

This wonderful vegetable and lima bean soup lives up to its name. You must allow 1 1/2 hours of simmer time, and the lima beans must be soaked for two hours prior to cooking, but the results are well worth the time.

Best use I have ever found for left over ham! Be sure to save the pan drippings and chill them so you can remove the fat leaving behind the good tasting juices that flavor the soup broth so well. 

Bean with Bacon

Onions and celery are sauteed with bacon and added to this navy bean soup in a chicken bouillon base spiced with cloves and bay leaf.
