This cake is very sweet and a little too dense for me. I didn't have the coconut on hand, so we put some whipped cream on top. Don't know if I will make it again. It just didn't blow our socks off! Sorry.

Very good moist coffee cake. I left out the brown sugar on the topping because I uses sweetened coconut. This cake was wonderful The whole family devoured it. Very light and tasty.

Delicious and so easy! The coconut started to look a little crispy toward the end so I lightly covered the cake with a piece of foil and it was fine. I will definitely make this again!

Very tasty. Next time I will try chunk pineapple instead of crushed AND add coconut to the batter as well.

ABSOLUTE HIT! It's deliciously light and wonderful! The pineapple and coconut was fabulous together. I'm "the one" at work that brings lots of homemade treats...and this was a huge hit at work. **Future: may use as the base for other variations...blueberry, light cinnamon swirl, etc. May add some chopped macademia nuts too. I like to try new recipes, but this will be a new go-to recipe for me!

Wowie! Only 5 people reviewed this fabulous coffee cake as I write this? I can only assume hundreds more have tried it, loved it, but unfortunately didn't post a review! What a wonderful surprise this cake was. Moist, yes MOIST, no doubt from both the sour cream and the vegetable oil, neither of which can be beat to ensure a moist cake. I made no changes whatsoever--good call because this cake certainly couldn't have been any better. I wouldn't substitute brown sugar for the white sugar as other reviewers have done, as this is SO lightly coconut, SO lightly pineapple and cinnamon, that it definitely called for the lightness of the white sugar. Others noted the coconut on their cake got too brown. This is solved simply by covering the cake lightly with a sheet of aluminum foil during the last several minutes of baking. There are coffee cakes, most of which are either dry or boring, and then there are coffee cakes--like this one. Delicately tropical, certainly different, and down right delicious. Thanks for sharing your aunt's recipe!

Good, light and moist... the only thing wrong was the topping. The coconut came out dry and overdone. If I do this cake again, I will add melted butter to the coconut mixture and broil the topping for the last 5 minutes or so, until brown.

I made this for a potluck at work a few weeks ago and it was a hit! One of my coworkers told me the next day that she would buy the ingredients that I needed to make it again. And she did a few days later.

It was very tasty. The coconut topping got a little too brown, but perhaps that was just my oven.

THIS DESERVES A 10 STAR RATING: 22 November 2007 -- I made this for Thanksgiving morning today and as soon as I took my first bite I said, 'I THINK THIS IS THE BEST COFFEE CAKE I'VE EVER HAD!' My adult son, who had previously stated that he wants to start accumulating recipes of all the great dishes I've made in past years, said after taking his first bite, 'This goes in The Book for sure!!' I changed NOTHING in this recipe which is so very simple to make, but if I were to do so I think it would be to simply add some chopped Macadamia nuts to the topping or the cake mix itself. We were surprised at just how light the cake itself is and it's as good later when it has cooled off as it IS hot right out of the oven. If you're reading my review just know that **YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS COFFEE CAKE!** Everyone will remember how YUMMY it was!! Ciao...Poni (rhymes with Bonnie)

The best thing about this coffee cake is that it is not too overly sweet. I followed the recipe except where it called for sugar, I used half white sugar and half brown sugar. This would make a good dessert also.
