Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • FILLING:
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed
  • 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces vanilla-flavored candy coating, melted

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and lemon extract. Gradually add the flour. Press into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan; set aside. In a heavy saucepan, melt butter and chocolate until smooth. Remove from the heat; cool slightly. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, sugar and vanilla, Beat in cooled chocolate mixture, flour and salt. Pour over the crust.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees F for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely on a wire rack. Drizzle candy coating over bars. Cool for 20 minutes before cutting.
