This was so easy and the family loved it! I used a white cake mix and used dark chocolate soy milk in place of whole milk. To help the milk absorb into the cake faster, I used the handle of a wooden spoon and made a few holes in the cake and then poured the milk mixture over the cake and placed in the fridge. By the time I was ready to put the whipped topping on, all of the milk soaked into the cake.

Was told by the eater that this was the best tres leches she'd ever had! Pretty proud. Can be tedious to make, but a lot of fun in the end.

This was delicious. I took the advice of others and halved the sugar in the whipped cream topping and it was perfect. Many rave reviews from friends, including those of latin descent. I did sprinkle cinnamon on top, but after tasting it, I personally prefer it without.

I read a ton of the reviews for this recipe prior to making it. Lots of good advice, but it started to get very confusing after a while. I read a lot about the "egginess," "sogginess." and "sweetness" of this cake so I altered the recipe accordingly. I used 3 egg whites and 2 whole eggs when making the cake. I used a straw and literally stabbed the cake to death. I halved the whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, and evaporated milk for the milk mixture. I used the Joy of Cooking whipped cream recipe which calls for 1 cup whipping cream, 2Tsp sugar, and 1tsp vanilla extract. I sprinkled cinnamon on top and served the cake chilled at this year's Cinco de Mayo party. It was a hit!

I was not a fan of this, but not due to the recipe. I think I just do not like this type of cake. My husband however, loved it! I added strawberries and this made it more appealing to me. I think I will make it again, this time adding more strawberries throughout instead of just as topping.
