This soup was delicious - we were looking for a use for all of the tomatoes and green beans from the garden - this was great. I actually omitted the basil - I thought it might overwhelm the soup - I didn't miss it at all. I also left it to simmer for much longer than called for - I just left it on the stove all afternoon. I think the soup would be really good with chicken, or lamb, or sausage. Definitely going to make this one again!

This recipe was a fantastic and filling meal when combined with salad and homemade bread sticks, even for a meat-eater like myself! I made a few changes, as I didn't have any fresh tomatoes on hand, so I substituted with one 6oz can of tomato paste and one 28oz can of crushed tomatoes. Since I also didn't have any fresh basil, I substituted about 2Tbs of dried and by the time it was on the table everyone in the room (and even my 2 year old from his high chair) was giving the soup rave reviews! Definitely a keeper!

This soup is easy but so tasty! I've used fresh beans from the garden and the taste really comes out.

This soup is sooo good. It is light and healthy, and tastes wonderful. I used fresh green beans and will probably do canned in the future. They were not as tender as I would have liked. I used 2 tbsp dried basil instead of fresh. I will make this over and over.

Couldn't be better. I did though substitute a very little olive oil and passed on the butter. I also added the garlic at the time of adding the tomatoes to allow the garlic more kick. I will make this often.

Love it!! Fresh, healthy and ooh so easy to make!! I took the prior reviewers advice and pureed about 1/3 of the soup - excellent!

I was looking for a way to use my garden's bounty, especially some overgrown green beans. I also had the tomatoes and basil. This recipe was easy to follow and I would only suggest that the simmer times be lengthened a bit to be sure the vegetables are truly tender. I usually puree about a third of a soup recipe like this and I think it enhanced it quite a bit, giving the broth more body and taste. Will definitely make this again.
