This sauce is really delicious. I prepared chunky, with 1/2 the onion and added cooked, cubed chicken breast, broccoli and mushrooms (during saute phase) . With the addition of the vegges and meat the recipe does serve 5. Sauce can be runny, but it's nothing a little cornstarch can't fix! Yum!

This has become my husbands favorite dish that I make. However, he's a true italian....so when I make this, I add a little more sugar than this recipe calls for. Sometimes, 3 teaspoons. ;) And I also add a little more cream. Depending upon the consistency....I either add some more tomatoes or if I don't have a can open....I just add a little sauce from an open jar in the fridge.

This is so good. I felt like this should have some meat in it to bring it together. So I tenderized/flattened two chicken breasts, dipped them in lemon juice, then sprinkled them w/ garlic salt and ground pepper. I then grilled them on a cast iron griddle and added the chicken to the sauce once it was finished. I served the sauce over linguine. I will definately make this again. My 7yr old asked for seconds!

So simple to make, and so delicious to taste. Not messy, hardly takes time to make, and the results are absolutely yummy. I used regular tomatoes instead of the canned ones, and added a bit of cheese, just for the taste. Me, my dad and my brother absolutely loved it. However, although i made it according to the quantity for 5 servings, it was a little less for the 3 of us, so the next time i'll be increasing the quantity. Overall, an outright winner.

This is a really tasty recipe. Since it really only makes 3 servings, I added about 1/2 a green pepper and 1/2 cup of regular canned pasta sauce to help increase it to 4 small servings. Also, to make it thicker just simmer it uncovered until it is a thick as you want it. Stir often.

Very good. I used a 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes (all I had), 4 cloves of garlic, fresh basil, and a can of tomato paste to make it a bit thicker. It was delicious as well as easy to make on a night I had time restraints!

My very picky eaters loved this recipe...I used garlic diced tomatos and that really brought out the garlic flavor. I even added some groud up italian sausage which one of my eaters loved, the other didn't like chunks in her food. Would definitely make again.

My family loved this recipe. I put the sauce in the blender, as mentioned by others and it was creamy and delicious. I also added more garlic, as my family loves garlic. I have also tried making this recipe with southwestern seasoning, southwestern canned tomatoes and a little cayenne. It was so good my son wanted me to teach him how to make it!!! Thank you for sharing this recipe.

We tried this recipe and absolutely love it!! We used a little milk to balance out the cream, which lightened it up a bit. It has become a family favorite!

I tried this recipe on a whim because I wanted something fresh that wouldn't take too long to cook...this came out great for me! I pretty much did exactly what the recipe said and pureed the tomatoes before adding the cream, based on other reviews. The flavors were perfect together, and it wasn't a heavy meal, which is what I was looking for. I will def add some sausage or chicken the next time I make it!

The taste was good, but I didn't care for the consistancy. I think others were right when they say the tomatoes need pureed. Also, it is a bit bland, so next time I would add more garlic or italian herbs. My husband hates any meal that doesn't have meat in it, so I added a shredded chicken breast, and that made it hartier. Also we used cheese filled tortilleni as the pasta.

This is a great base for an amazing sauce. I made my own changes such as using twice as much garlic, adding celery with the garlic and onions, as well as adding some red wine and beer into the red sauce. Once I felt it cooked down I used my hand blender to smooth it out then added the butter and half and half instead of heavy cream. To finsih it off I added shavings of parmigiano reggiano. This recipe is a keeper!

THANK YOU for this recipe!!!! It was really good!!! The only things I did differently are: I Doubled the recipe and since I don't have a blender I pureed 2 small onions and 3 cloves of garlic to make sure it was smooth. After adding the cream I added a small hand full of Romano cheese to the sauce while simmering. I poured the sauce over cooked cheese filled Ravioli in a baking dish and covered with shredded Mozarella and Cheddar cheese and baked for about 20 mins.......:) Next time I make this sauce I'm going to try it over my homemade Lasagna P.S when you double the recipe it calls for 2 tablespoons of basil....I only used about 3/4 of a tablespoon.... Thanks Again :)

I guess given the number of reviews, I expected a little better tasting sauce. I did add one more clove of garlic and more sugar, as I thought the sauce was too tart. Even after doing that, there was an unpleasant after-taste. I might try again with crushed tomatoes, but I'll see.

It was a great starting point for me, I'd never made my own tomato sauce before, but I had some fresh tomatoes to use up! I chopped three medium tomatoes instead of the canned ones, and used fresh basil instead of dried. It was delicious, but for consistency with fresh tomatoes I really should have pureed at least part of it to give it more 'saucyness'.

This is really good! It has become a staple in our kitchen. I usually add something, cream cheese, bleu cheese crumbles, feta, whatever I have on hand, and the recipe tastes great with all of them. I've added chicken, beef, and seafood and have loved it every time. This one is a keeper
