Tiramisu II Recipe Reviews - Allrecipes.com (Pg. 13)

I've been cooking for 40+ years and I made this yesterday. I made it exact to the recipe, with the exception of mixing all the fillings together prior to putting it all together. There is no need to have the whipped cream layer separate to the custard layer, it just makes it more time consuming in putting it together. I thought the dish was to die for and it was not too sweet or lacking in coffee flavor. However, as others suggested, I agree that doubling the coffee/rum to at least 1/2 cup next time would have been a little bit better. Not because the ladyfingers need so much soaking as they get soft from setting for 24 hours between the custard layers anyway. There is a huge difference in flavor between marscapone cheese and cream cheese, and unless you want cheesecake flavor, use the mascarpone, which is richer and more like a heavy cream taste. Cream cheese has a more distinct flavor no matter what you add to it, whereas the mascarpone takes on the flavors you add as the distinct flavor. Spend the extra few dollars and get the real thing. Whisk the egg yolks, sugar, and milk over medium heat and continue after it starts to boil for 1 to 2 minutes. It will not be as thick as pudding, but after it is refrigerated for an hour it is the perfect texture when you then mix it all together. I don't know how the person who said they went through a bunch of egg yolks because they kept cooking. If you do as directed it doesn't happen.

I love tiramisu and have eaten it in Italy, so I am a tough critic. This recipe was the first I ever tried to make my very own, and (after following tips to double coffee/rum mixture) I can officially give it my seal of approval. I'm so happy I found this!

As others have shared, this recipe is fantastic. Not only was this absolutely delicious, it was also easy to make. This was the first time I ever made tiramisu and I will definitely make it again using this recipe. Although it was difficult, I waited 24 hours to eat it and it was definitely worth the wait. The flavors were much richer and blended then they were the day I made it. As others suggested, I also doubled the coffee/rum mixture. I could only find the hard ladyfinger cookies at the grocery store, and they worked just fine. I think doubling the coffee/rum mixture helped soften them so that it would not be crunchy. Next time I will make it in a smaller pan with more layers so that there's more to each bite. I will definitely be making this again soon!

Fantastic and easy to make. I made the lady fingers from scratch through this site also. Check it out especially since it can be difficult at times to find lady fingers

This was an excellent recipe....tasted better than some I've eaten in restaurants! Be sure to double the amount of coffee and alcohol suggested in the recipe, otherwise, you will not have enough liquid to soak the ladyfingers in. To get a stronger coffee flavor if you aren't using espresso, stir 1-2 tsp of instant coffee into your brewed coffee. Also, don't split the ladyfingers in half...it makes them way too thin. I made 2 batches of this recipe...one with and without splitting the cookies and the whole cookie recipe turned out way better. Your guests will love it!

OH MY GOD!!!! YUM!!!! It was awesome!!!People said it was the BEST tiramasu they ever had. I sweetend the whipped cream with powdered sugar. After dusting the cake with the cocoa I shredded dark chocolate on top. I also doubled the coffee and used 2 TBSPN of rum and 2 TBSPN of khalua. I drizzled the coffee mixture and did not taste to much alcohol or espresso. For those of you on weight watchers be carefull..It is 12 points for a piece.

Delicious, but definitely needs more coffee mixture but be sure to watch how much rum you're putting in because that comes through quite nicely. I also think next time I think I won't halve the ladyfingers. That was a pain in the ace and I've seen many a tiramisu with whole ladyfingers.
