Three-Layer Chocolate Brownies
SUBMITTED BY:
Billie Hopkins
"I often serve these hearty, cake-like brownies with a fork for easier eating. The oatmeal crust, fudgy filling and chocolate frosting make them a hit wherever I take them."

I was looking for somthing different. I tried this recipe and I really liked it. I've added it to my collection of will definately make again. I'm a picky brownie person and this one is great. Made it just the it read. Maybe next time I'll add some chocolate to the oatmeal base just to get even more chocolate.

I just finished making this recipe and eating my first piece. It is great, although I did make some substitutions simply because I realized I didn't have the chocolate AFTER I started making it! I made the crust like suggested(with slightly more butter), but added about 1/3cup baking cocoa. Then I made another brownie recipe I like(very similar) that calls for baking cocoa instead of chocolate squares. Finally, I made the frosting like suggested, except I melted white chocolate and added 1/8 cup baking cocoa. It turned out so yummy! The only thing that bugs me is that the crust does not hold together. I guess maybe a little more butter next time since I added the cocoa. Goes to show that a great idea is still great even with variations!

These weren't anything to be impressed with. Not very chocolatey and much more like a cake in texture than a brownie. The frosting was the only saving grace for these. The oatmeal layer was rather bland as well. I did spread some melted peanut butter over one half of the brownies before topping with the chocolate to try something different and that did add a bit of flavor, but they were still lacking overall. I won't be making these again.
