Very good. I wish I had all the ingredients on hand, but despite this, the chili came out great. What I was missing: green pepper, fresh jalapeno, chili powder and veg. meat. First, after reading many reviews, I halved the recipe. Still a lot of food for 4 people. Changes: I cut up 13 Little Smokies, and three pieces of bacon and sauteed that with the 1/4 of an onion and 3 small celery stalks. I added the spices along with paprika, parsley and chives. Then I added a small can of mushrooms. Then I added the entire can of green chili's (no draining). Con't to saute. Then I added an entire can of garbanzo beans (I do not care for kidney beans), 1/4 can of red kidney and 1/2 can of black beans. Made my own chili spice, (can look up on the web) and added jalapeno flakes (very few) and some red pepper too. Also added 1 can of diced tomatoes and 1 small can of tomato sauce, 1/2 cup of water and a couple tbs of red wine. Thank you for sharing this recipe!!

I haven't enough experience with chili in general and the vegetarian variety in particular to say that it's the best or even close. Sure does taste good though. My variations: 2 onions 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce instead of 2 jalapenos only one can of green chillies no black pepper (oops) some quartered button mushrooms caled910 must have some hungry folks sitting down to her table. I got 16 cups so I'd expect to be able to serve 12. I liked the heat level though No. 1 opined that it was too hot and needed more liquid. This will be added to my small but growing list of vegan dishes

A great recipe to use as a base. I usually tinker with the ingredients according to taste and what I have on hand, including using fresh veges instead of canned/frozen.

I make this all the time. The only additions I make is a little curry, and double the cumin plus maybe a little more. Too good.

This chili was really yummy!! I loved how colorful it was and it had just the right amount of spice. I used beef instead of vegetarian meat and I added a can of pinto beans. This recipe made so much chili, my husband and I have been eating it for days...but we're still not tired of it!! ***special note of suggestion: use rubber gloves to cut up the canned chili peppers!! After cutting them my hands felt like they were on FIRE for hours...

Delicious! I wasn't sure about adding garbanzo beans but it was fantastic. I skipped the corn and cut way down on the chili powder (I buy chili powder from an Indian grocery...it's much hotter than mainstream brands), adding a jalapeno and hot Rotel for spice. Served with a dollup of sour cream and this is now a new family favorite.

This is a great recipe! I made this for a vegan event and it was a huge hit. Just spicy enough! Edit: Made this again and it was even better. Of course, this time I used 2 lbs of ground beef. Fantastic recipe, great for bean lovers. Both times, I've used a crock pot and gotten great results.

Really good stuff. A few things to note: You need a really big pot - or two pots, because this makes a lot of chili. Secondly, it's somewhat time consuming to chop everything up, so do it ahead of time. Also... I don't like things too spicy. I didn't use any hot peppers or green chili peppers. i just used a few splashes of chili seasoning. I used 1 can of stewed tomatoes in place of 1 can of whole peeled tomatoes. I added 2 zucchini's and replaced a green pepper with a red pepper. Served with corn bread, sour cream, avocado, and grated cheddar. SO GOOD!

I'm not a vegetarian my gf is, but i absolutely love this chili. I make this almost once a month and the only change ive made to the recipe is adding mushrooms. Everyone who has tried it liked it and most dont realize its not actually ground beef.

Holly ! If you want to play a bad joke on someone, cook them this intense Chili recipe ! My girlfriend and i were surfing the net for a vegetarian chili recipe and found this one. My girlfriend was doing her exercise while this recipe was on the stove so i thought i'd cheat and taste it immediately just to see...and POW ! my tongue was on fire ! AAaaaAAAAaaAAAaaaaaaaAaa help me GOD ! WATER I NEED WATER !! My girlfriend came out of her room and tasted it herself and same reaction: AAAaaaaaAAAAAAAA !!! WATTTTTERRRR !!! So this recipe is worth 5-star for the spice but a 1-star because you can't really eat this. There's no way anybody can eat this, even if you like spice !

We are trying to eat one meat-free dish every week, but this one just did not impress my family. Too spicy, and the texture was just not like regular chili.

The title over-promises a bit, but the chili is definitely very good and I will be making it again. I used two large cans of crushed tomatoes, and left the liquid from all of the beans in the recipe. The consistency turned out just right: thick, but not too thick. Substantive. :) I did not find this recipe spicy whatsoever, so the spice factor is definitely going to be different for everyone. I threw in 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and I still wouldn't call the result anything close to spicy. It is flavorful, and good, though! Thanks for the great new chili recipe!

This chili is great! It's hearty, not soupy. It has just enough kick to it to make it flavorful. It's not too hot to enjoy. I used just one package of the veggie meat crumbles. That was plenty. This recipe is a keeper.
