These weren't bad, but compared to our great grandmother's heirloom sugar cookie recipe my family has been spoiled on for as many years as I can remember, these didn't compare. Only reason why we made these was because we temporarily misplaced our old recipe and wanted sugar cookies for the Holidays. These tasted more like a "butter cookie" than anything else. But, if you haven't been spoiled on one recipe your whole life, I can see why so many raved about this one. Sorry, but won't be making this again.

The dough is very easy to work with after being chilled for 4 hour in metal pan. But the texture and taste after baking is awful .....very bland, not sweet at all and tastes like flat bread. Yuck

Very very good recipe! Even the ones I thought were a little overcooked were still soft. I followed the suggestion of rolling dough on parchment paper and then peeling off the excess. Great idea!

yes i agree, the dough is a lil soft, even after refridgerating over night but it was nothing a lil extra flour couldnt fix. not sure why people had problems with it. The flavor was perfect and it baked beautifully!

This recipe lived up to its ratings, the cookies were perfect! They turned out soft, but not so soft that you couldn't decorate them. The flavor was great, probably due to all of the butter. I brought these cookies to a Christmas party and everyone loved them. This will be my standard sugar cookie recipe from now on.

Taste was 4 stars but the dough was so sticky it was impossible to roll out and make cut outs with. I had to roll out with my hands and just ended up making regular circle cookies. I let it sit in the fridge for several hours and also continued to add flour while attempting to roll out.

Everyone said they taste more like baked pancakes than sugar cookies. And rolling was impossible! They were so sticky and gooey and I couldn't work with them at all. Definitly thought they would taste much better with everything that was written about them before the recipe. Not the best ever.

I have stayed away from making cut out sugar cookies for years because it was just too much work, or too hard, or they never tasted that good, etc, etc. Well I went out on a limb last night and thought my 7 yr old should say that he has made them at least once with his mom for Santa. What a wonderful experience all the way around!! Easy recipe, ingredients I actually had on hand, amazingly easy to roll out, and tasted better than any sugar cookie I've ever eaten! I did add the extra cup of sugar and extra tsp of vanille. This is one I'll be using again and again. I'm actually going to make them again for New Years when my teenagers are home since I never made cut out cookies with them when they were little. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!

WONDERFUL!! I've shied away from home made sugar cookies, but wanted to give these a try for Christmas cookies. Dough is perfect and makes beautiful cutouts. Definitely kneed the dough in smaller sections first and then combine before rolling out. Not a sticky dough and super easy to manipulate. Used the sugar cookie icing recipe by JBS BOX. The combination is so yummy. My family loved these, especially my husband.

The best ever. Title says it all. Will only use this 1 from now on. The dough for this is a little wetter than other's I think, but the cookies come out sooooo good, just make sure to work with chilled small sections of the dough 1 at a time, so it's easier to work with. Also as another reviewer stated parchment paper is great for the bottom of the cookies to come out perfect. I did change 1 thing, in addition to the vanilla extract, I added 1/4tsp of Almond extract. I love the taste of almonds and a little bit goes a long way.
