This is a good and easy recipe. I did think it needed a bit more salt. I scalded my milk in the microwave, added the rest of the incredients except eggs, then zapped it 40 seconds twice, whisking between each round. Then I brought the eggs (whole & beaten) up to temp with a little milk before adding all. I baked in a glass, buttered pie plate and it was terrific!

This was a decent spoon bread. I grew up eating spoon breads during my visits to relatives in Virginia. I made it as written except I added another teaspoon of sugar. Next time, I'll add more salt. It was missing something. I might try using 1/2 cream and half milk or maybe more buttter next time. Mine came out a little lumpy though I tried to get all the lumps out when I added the cornmeal. Probably will have to gradually beat in the meal with a whisk or add the cornmeal prior to heating the milk.

I had never heard of spoon bread before but I read that it goes well with black eyed peas. So for new years I made this recipe as stated. It turned out fantastic!!! It reminds me of a bread pudding like consistency, with a bit of a sweet and salty flavoring. It was a huge hit. Others kept singing to the stone temple pilots song: "Spoon Man" replaced with the lyrics "Spoon Bread" while eating it. I will definitely make this again!

A little bland. It could use some dressing up. The texture was excellent, and it was very easy to make. I think this would be a good base recipe.

YESSSS!!! I have been searching for a recipe for this for such a long time- comparable to my favorite Mexican Restaurant that sadly went out of business some time ago. Excellent texture, flavor, and very easy to make. Thanks for making my search finally come to a close! :)

since I was a little girl I have always loved spoon bread. I make it on sundays with ham dinner. For those who thought it a little bland and butter wasnt cutting it, I use a mixture of butter, pure maple syrup and a bit of brown sugar and it is delicious!

When my husband wants something extra special Sunday morning, he'll longingly inquire if I have time to make this delicious Spoon Bread recipe. We both enjoy it so much. Thank you Mildred.
