DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, brown roast in oil over medium-high heat. Cut in half; place in a 5-qt. slow cooker. Add the onion, 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce and pineapple juice. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until meat is tender.
Remove roast; set aside. In a small bowl, combine the flour and remaining teriyaki sauce until smooth; stir into cooking juices. Cover and cook on high for 30-40 minutes or until thickened. Shred meat with two forks; return to the slow cooker and heat through. Spoon 1/2 cup onto each bun; top with a slice of pineapple.

I can't stand pork most of the time and I LIKE this recipe! I think it all depends on the teriyaki sauce you use. I used Kikkoman Teriyaki Baste and Glaze and fresh pineapple juice, since that's what I had on hand. I also served it on wheat King's Hawaiian rolls....YUMMY!

I like this recipe for the fact that it uses a slow cooker which makes it easy. The pork turns out very moist and tastes good. A little greasy for my liking though. I suppose the success of this recipe depends in part on the teriyaki sauce. Personally, I prefer the BBQ flavor with pork. If I make it again I think I would drain more of the juice before adding the shredding pork back in and I would try to find a sauce that works better for my taste with pork.

I don't understand the reason behind searing the meat then cutting it in half. Searing the meat is supposed to keep the juices inside. Cutting the roast in half defeats that purpose and lets the juice leak out once in the crockpot. If you are cutting the roast in half to fit it into the crockpot, then cut it in half before the searing step and sear both pieces fully.

I'm giving the recipe three stars because I had to make a lot of adjustments, but the end result was very, very good. I used pork loin roast instead of shoulder to keep down the work of having to pick all the fat out of the meat. I did cook the meat in the pineapple juice and teriyaki sauce as directed, but by the end of the cook time, the juices were clotted with fat and swimming in grease... not a very good taste in my opinion. I trashed the cooking juices and started over with the sauce (which I made from teriyaki, lime juice, brown sugar, and a little ketchup and cider vinegar). The end result was very good, lots of left overs that my husband nearly ate by himself. A premade teriyaki sauce (like Kikkoman baste & glaze) would have worked well too, but didn't have any on hand. Still worth a try if you like teriyaki pork.

This is not a tasty dish. The meat was too salty and dry. Try another recipe that has more tangy flavor. I wouldn't feed this to a dog.

Great recipe. I put in a little less teriyaki and added some soy sauce so it wasn't so sweet. Have made numerous times.

I was unable to get shoulder roast so I used boneless county ribs since I have used that in the past for pulled prok recipes. We thought this recipe was ok but we didn't love it. It was salty when tasted alone but tasted less salty when on the bread and with pineapple but still a little too salty for us. I don't want to be the negative one rating a recipe but I guess I am! We probably won't make it again.
