I made a few changes.. but all the credit goes to the base of this recipe. It is flexible with so many things you can do to it. I added garlic powder, onion powder, corn and colby cheese. I mixed some tater tots in and put the rest on top. No milk; extra soup and mixed everything together. Thank you for a great recipe.

not what I thought it was going to taste like. I had a neighbor make something similar for me after I had a baby but this wasn't quite it. Maybe I'll just ask her for the recipe. :)

My husband who is not a casserole person like this. I think it could use some adjustments on seasoning. Think it could use a bit more flavor. I will try again.

I had never heard of Tater Tot Casserole until my boyfriend requested it for his birthday dinner. So I looked it up online and found this recipe. It turned out great but I made some adjustments to make it a little healthier and added some more flavors. I used lean ground beef and sauted the beef with a sm sweet onion and 2 to 3 cloves of minced fresh garlic; i added a few shakes of worchester sauce, and chopped up a few jalopeno slices to add a little kick. Then added a whole back of frozen mixed vegetables that included corn, beans, peas and carrots. I used 98% FF Healthy request campbells cream of mushroom soup and only added about 1/4 cup milk. Salt and pepper to taste and a pinch of cayenne. I put in meat mixture then a lite sprinkling of 2% sharp cheddar and then layered the tater tots on top. I baked it for 30-40 minutes then broiled it on hi for 8-10 to make the tots crispy. I got rave reviews and surprised myself with how good it was.

This dish was so tasty! I was really looking forward to some good fattening winter comfort food and this fit the bill! I didn't have an onion so I sprinkled the ground beef with garlic powder. Very good and so easy, thanks for sharing.

I liked it...was hoping my 5 picky kids would like it. 2 didn't, 2 did, and I think the last was on the fence about it. I have the worst time trying to get something all likes :( Anyhoo, I did add about a tsp or so of cumin & coriander, about a tbs of garlic, pinch of salt, and a good few shakes of pepper to season my meat. I also used different cheeses...cheddar, jack, mozz, and a little bit of asiago. I will make again, but prb will be all for me I guess. It'll depend tho, on if it makes good leftovers. Thanks for the recipe!

This recipe, minus the onions has been a family favorite for years! We call it Grandma's Casserole since we tasted it for the first time when my Grandma Dolly made it. Here is a tip though... once you have the soup and milk mixed, mix a 1/2 cup of soup with the ground beef. It works almost like a glue so that when you serve it you're not leaving some of the meat in the baking dish. Ok, now I think I might have to make this for dinner! LOL

Good kid friendly meal. I double the soup as we like our casseroles a little on the creamy side.

This was a good basic quick meal. I enjoyed it for its simplicity and comfort food level. However, i think next time i may take a mexican twist and substitute a can of nacho cheese soup and add some rotel.

As another Norwegian from MN I agree that this recipe is a great starting point. I browned the ground beef and added a package of dry onion soup mix for seasoning, some frozen mixed vegetables, cream of mushroom soup and milk, and mixed it all together. I layered the tots on top, and poured a mixture of cream of chicken soup and milk over those, and topped with cheese. When I make it again I'll use the whole bag of tater tots rather than half. My 7 year-old son devoured it!

After reading the reviews, I used this recipe as a jumping off point and made the following changes: Used 2lbs of ground sirloin, 1 can cream of mushroom, 1 can cheddar cheese soup, a full bag of tater tots, and a can of french style green beans. I browned the beef with the onion and a teaspoon of minced garlic, and 1 tablespoon greek seasoning. I then mixed the soups and 1 cup of milk into the meat after it was browned and drained. I layered the greenbeans on the bottom of a 9X13 casserole dish, spooned the meat mixture over it, then sprinkled 2 cups of shredded cheddar over that, then topped with the tots, which I patted down into the cheese. sprinkled the whole thing with some fresh ground pepper, and baked at 350 for 40 minutes. For those other reviewers who complained about blandness, well I think it's common sense to season your meat while cooking, and hey, be adventurous and use this recipe as a starting point, tweak it with different soups, cheeses, spices...My family and I really enjoyed this dish, and while I did make changes, I think this recipe deserves 5 stars for a great basic recipe, and inspiration. I am looking forward to the leftovers for lunch tomorrow, I am betting that like most casseroles like this, it'll taste even better tomorrow! :)

My boyfriend and I were pretty disappointed with this recipe, especially after reading all of the reviews. It was bland and we thought the tater tots were a weird texture.

GREAT RECIPE!!! The whole family enjoyed this one!!! I used cream of chicken instead of the cram of mush. I think next time I am going to subsitute half of the cream of chicken with sour cream. I also slpit my cream of chicken and milk mixture and put half over the beef mixtire, added cheese then tots and the remaining mixture and cheese. Turned out GREAT!!!!
