this is a great recipe!! so simple and yummy. i used dill pickle relish but added a little sugar to replace the sweet pickle relish. also i used lime juice instead of lemon juice coz i find lime to be less sour.

I made this as written and found it to be very bland. Even after letting it sit overnight, the only thing I could really taste was the mayo. So, I added another Tbs each of the relish and minced onion and then added a couple of tsps of sugar, let it sit for another night and it was great the next day!

Great, simple delicious recipe. Definitely tastes better with time but still good if you need to use right away. I used the pickle juice instead of lemon and it was better!

I hate sweet relish. So, I substituted with finely diced dill pickle and used fresh squeezed lemons. It turned out delicious!!

I was pleasantly surprised how great this tasted. When I told my grandfather I was baking breaded fish, and he told me we had no tartar sauce. Of course I felt bad, so I ran to the comp and looked up a recipe. I found this, and prepared it within five minutes - he loved it!

I made this quick to have with leftover fried fish for lunch, and I modified slightly using lime juice and dill pickle, omitted the onion.. wonderful! A great base to make your own version of tartar!

This recipe has been in my family for over 30 years. The only difference is mine doesn't call for lemon juice.Mine calls for 1 TBLSP. of minced dried parsley. I make it all the time and everyone loves it.

This is a great recipe! I have used one like this for years. I use a small amount of white vinegar instead of lemon (we drizzle the lemon right on the fish), and I put about a teaspoon of fresh finely chopped red bell peppers (too much will turn your sauce pink), the bell peppers really bring the flavor our!

This was a good place to start. I made this tonight as a first experiment in making my own tartar sauce, and ended up adding a couple teaspoons of powdered Ranch dressing mix, some dill, and a little granulated garlic. I also used dill pickle relish instead of sweet. My wife loved it and said I was right to make the sauce instead of buying it from the store! That was worth 4 stars all by itself;)

I tried this recipe because I wanted to have a good yet simple tartar sauce for my salmon cakes (recipe also found on this site)... One thing I love about this recipe is not only how quick and easy it was, but it was delicious and easy to modify to one's liking. A few of my own modifications: I opted to leave out the lemon juice, but I added 1 tbsp of sugar (cuz I like my tartar sauce, but I didn't want the sweet relish to be overbearing), 1 tsp of paprika and a dash or two of cayenne pepper. I followed the advice of letting it sit in the refrigerator for a few days... I made it on Friday and the result was a sauce on Monday that my girlfriend called "crazy good". I will definitely repeat this recipe over and over and over again!

This is the best tartar sauce. I don't even think about buying tartar sauce at the store. I've used home made sweet pickles, chopped gherkins, and relish. The only thing I don't understand is the 3 day storage. I have stored this for 1 month in the refrigerator and I'm still alive!
