I omitted the tomatoes and replaced the onions with a generous handful of dehydrated onion. Other than that, kept the measurements the same. At the end I added black pepper and plain old cold water, because that's how my Mama always served this dish--watered down with lots of black pepper. This has a few more spices than Mama used to do, but that's all to the good to convince a picky husband that cucumbers DO have a flavor! I'm actually surprised that this recipe didn't call for water--I've never had it that way, and I've had this dish at a large number of homes in the South. You just add water to the vinegar until you get a mild zip, like Italian dressing essentially. Thanks for the recipe!

I scaled this down to 2 servings, as I was experimenting w/a variety of cuke salad recipes (I've never made it before and there are a TON of recipes out there...this was one of the 4 I selected). I followed the recipe as is, save the celery salt, per personal preference. Of the 4 cuke salad recipes I tried, I think this will be my go to when I want a non-cream cuke salad. Just per my personal tastes, next time I think I'll slightly decrease the basil and oregano and increase the cayenne pepper---the slight heat is a nice addition! TY for a great recipe!

I personally really really like this with three changes. One I didn't salt the cucumbers because there was salt enough in the dressing. Two I added yellow peppers to give it an additional color. Three I halved cherry tomatoes instead of the medium tomatoes. I changed out the tomatoes because I like the texture a little bit better. I served this at a party accompanied by chicken pot pie and everyone loved it.

The few extra seasonings in this salad dressing do add to the taste, but my favorite marinated cucumber salad is made with a very simple vinegar/sugar dressing and some dill, preferably fresh. I also prefer that the seeds of the cucumber be removed - a good way to do that is to halve it lengthwise and scoop the seeds and membrane with a spoon.

This was extremely good! I used an English cucumber, so I skipped the step for salting it and letting it sit before rinsing. It didn't need that because it was not bitter. The only changes I made was to use roasted red peppers instead of tomatoes and I also added black olives.I made the dressing exactly as written and it was perfect! I love the slight sweetness of the dressing in combination with the cucumbers. I will be making this quite often!

This was fantastic! It was like a souped up version of the easy "Italian dressing on the cucumbers" marinade. Well worth the extra effort (not that there was that much extra effort involved)!

I did not like this at all as it was WAY to vinegary for me. I guess I didn't taste the "interesting blend of flavors" hubs said it had.

I didn't have all the ingredients, but most. It is a pleasant change from all the mayo-based cucumber salads.
