Made this with a few modifications to take to a cinco de mayo party. I used ground chicken and ground beef, used kidney beans instead of chili because of preference and nacho flavored dorito's. this was great and went over perfect. I put some sour cream, tomotatoes and dressing on the side to avoid the soggy syndrome. It's kind of hard to mess up a taco salad but this was really good!

This was very very good stuff! I used Taco Seasoning I by Bill Echols, Catalina dressing, Ranch style beans (drained), Santitos chips. I did not cook the Catalina dressing in the meat because my hubby asked me to keep the catalina separate. I mixed the sour cream and salsa together in a small bowl. I'm the only one here who wanted to assemble this salad all in 1 big bowl then serve it, but the rest of the family wanted it all separate to build it themselves. I never had taco salad with the beans before, and was a little skeptical, but it was good, it all got eaten and no one even said anything about beans in their taco salad. Overall, really great salad and easy to do. I will do this one again. Would be great for camping too.

What a great recipe! I was so skeptical about the french dressing, but it was really great. I did take the advice about using Catalina french dressing and Nacho Doritos. Since I only made it this way, I don't know what it would be like the original way. I guess it would be wonderful either way. All 6 of us loved it...even the littlest ones.

Made my own variation ommiting the tomatoes and salad dressing and adding some coarsely chopped carrots for crunch. Very good, if not exactly healthy. I think I will add beans to tacos in future, good idea.

This is awesome!!! It really does make a ton, so cut the recipe in half if there are 4 of you. I would still use the entire head of lettuce though because it needs more lettuce if you want it to be like a salad. Also, don't add the chips to the lettuce until you are ready to serve it or they just get really soggy right away.

I have used this recipe over and over. I've worked with MR clients in group homes over the past 10 years and this salad is a hit with all of them. They love it and they get a kick of putting it together themselves. Thanks so much.

I was looking for a good taco salad...and guess I will have to keep on looking. I was a bit skeptic on the french dressing, and when I made this recipe, neither my husband or I cared for it.

Great recipe--We mixed some ranch with sour cream like one of our neighborhood Mexican restaurants does and it is really delicious. We used that instead of the French dressing

This recipe is good but I did a few variations until we got it how we really liked it. Instead of French dressing we used Thousand Islands. We also left out the chili and instead used a can of garbanzo beans and a can of kidney beans. Everyone adds their own sour cream and salsa to taste.

I made this with honey french dressing that you get by the salads. It was awesome! It had the sweet, yet spicy taste that everyone raved about. I will make this a part of my "Family Favorite" recipes. Thank you!

We've been making a variation of this salad for years. We use a can of drained Ranch Style beans instead of chili beans. Catalina French instead of regular French. And Fritos brand corn chips. We also add a chopped onion. We only cook the meat with the seasoning mix and add the beans and dressing later kind of ala carte with the remaining items. We toss only the lettuce, tomatoes, onions and cheese together and then keep all other ingredients seperate so people can add or not add the items they prefer. A little of the dressing tossed in individual bowls with everything else is really the best way to get the flavor without overpowering the salad. This is almost a standard for SuperBowl games in our group.

I, personally, did not care too much for this taco salad. I thought the French dressing took away the "taco" flavor that I like. But my husband liked this.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! I MADE IT FOR A BIRTHDAY FIESTA. EVERYONE LOVED IT! I DOUBLED THE RECIPE, AND IT REALLY DOES MAKE A LOT!! I REALIZED AFTER THE PARTY THAT I DIDN'T DOUBLE THE FRENCH DRESSING! STILL WAS SO DELICIOUS! EAT IT UP THE SAME DAY BECAUSE IT DOESN'T KEEP OVERNIGHT BECAUSE THE LETTUCE AND CHIPS GET SOGGY. I MADE SOFT TACOS FOR THE KIDS (HAD ALL THE SAME INGREDIENTS)! SURPRISINGLY, MY HUSBAND AND FATHER LOVED IT THE MOST. LOOK NO FURTHER THIS IS THE RECIPE YOU WANT!

I used 3/4 pound HB and 1 1/2 cans beans (this would probably be good with no meat and maybe 2 1/2 cans of beans). I used Catalina instead of French dressing. I use Romaine or green leaf lettuce instead of iceberg. Nacho cheese Doritos are crucial to the recipe. You'll have to have this salad at least once a week! It's addictive. I didn't bother with salsa or sour cream so I don't know how the recipe tastes with them. I can't imagine they could make it taste any better, though.
