I have been making this for many years, but I don't put the sour cream, or nacho chips in it. I put a layer of velveeta cheese on top of the meat before I bake it. It's soooo good!

Turkatron: Is that a taco pie? Meatwad: Mm-hmm. Turkatron: Taco pie!! Meatwad: I added food coloring 'cause it's a holiday, but it turned black 'cause I added all the food coloring I had. And I ate this butter straight out of the tub, 'cause it tastes good. There's a reason behind everything. Turkatron: Enjoy those tacos now, for in a thousand years they will be illegal! Ha ha ha ha-I think we all know why. Meatwad: We know why. Turkatron: Anti-taco legislation! Disestablishmentarianism!

My family really enjoyed this, and was a nice change from "ordinary" tacos, as well as being very easy. The only changes I made were to add a layer of salsa (this step is really needed to add a little moisture and really adds that extra something), used ground turkey instead of beef, and used low-fat sour cream. Yummy!!

Easy and excellent. Chips could have been left off, but fine with them on. My 5 year old went back for seconds!!!

We loved this. I made it using ground turkey, reduced fat sour cream and reduced fat cheese. The crescent roll dough was too big for a 9x9 pan, but I didn't want to make a 9x13 pan so I just doubled up the dough and bakes that part a tad longer. I also used crushes tortilla chips, probably half of a family size bag of chips. My kids even liked this. It was quick and it was easy, we will be making this again.

On my first attempt I used the crescent dough as the recipe dictates. Needless to say, the fam did not like it at all. Complained that it did not taste like tacos. Today I made it again and used cornbread mix as the crust. Major cudos from the gain. The cornbread gave it a highly superior taco flavor.

An easy weeknight dinner that doesn't skimp on taste! My hubby loved it! The only change I made was to add 2 cups of salsa -- just to get leftovers out of my fridge. Next time, I plan to layer the chips before the cheese to avoid crumbs when dipped.

My teenage boys loved it. I think it was a bit salty. I think it may have been the brand of taco seasoning I used combined with the salt from the tortilla chips. I think I would use taco shells on the top next time. This recipe is a keeper! Very fast to put together.

I made this for my mom and dad early on Wednesday, refrigerated it overnight before baking, popped it in the oven while they were at work on Thurs for about 30 min at 350, and they both loved it. I was upstairs studying and my mom called down "Jes! Come here for a minute" and she asked me if I'd make it for her next week to take in to her work potluck! They were quite impressed. I did make a few slight alterations. I baked the pillsbury pastry for 10 min at 350. Then, I browned the beef with green, red, & yellow peppers + diced onion, drained it, added taco seasoning and two big scoops of helluva dip, mixed that all together, tossed it into the 9 x 9 pan with the pastry on the bottom, put a very thin layer of helluva dip on top, crushed nacho chips and covered, put on some cheese and voila. They're big helluva dip fans so that could be why they enjoyed it so much! lol

I liked this recipe a lot because it was easy to make, quick and tasty. My whole family liked it very much. I added salsa before the meat. I added more sour cream on top of the crushed tortilla chips. On top of that I added sliced tomato and cheese. I would make this again.

This is excellent! It was easy to make and very good. I do not know that it is worth the extra fat and calories that the crescent rolls add to it. They do not enhance the flavor at all. If I didnt care about calories this would be my new way to make Taco Pie, but I dont think I will make it this way again.

For a healthier version I used ground turkey, reduced sodium taco seasoning, lowfat sour cream, lowfat shredded Mexican cheese and reduced fat crescent rolls. Sauteed a small diced onion with the meat. Added 1/2 can drained/rinsed black beans and 1/2 can drained/rinsed white corn to the meat along with only 1/2 of the sour cream mixed in. I also only used 1/3 to 1/2 of the chips. This turned out to be very quick and tasty topped with tomatoes, lettuce, and salsa. I will add some hot salsa to the meat and allow to cook down next time for a bit more spice.

While I really enjoyed this as my husband did, my three kids said it was just pretty good. I will probably make this again with a layer of beans of some kind...I did add corn to it and it tasted fine!

My family has been making this recipe for years and is still one of our favorites. I wanted to review to add a helpful hint we stumbled open: use the Philsbury Pizza Crust in lieu of the crescent rolls. Much easier to deal with than the individual crescent rolls and the difference is not noticable.
