I've had this recipe for years and love to make it. The only difference is that the recipe I have (from a former co-worker) uses dried onion flake instead of a raw onion . Since I'm not big on raw onion, this suits me fine and it's easier! Also my recipe suggests swiss, jack or mozzarella cheeses and I usually just use whatever I have. I made this for an appetizer party last weekend (using mozzarella) and it was a hit as always. It's a perfect side for soup or lasagna!

The onion and mushrooms were a little too raw for my taste.The onions also just stayed on the top and didn't really meld into it as I had expected. Next time I'll try sauteing first . It is such a great concpet I plan on experimenting with different fillings.

I served this at our family's holiday gathering today and it received a lot of 'wow's'. If you have the opportunity to try this for your next gathering, or just because, definitely do! The final presentation is almost a work of art. It also makes it look like you slaved for hours, when in fact, it's super easy to put together. I used Emmenthaler cheese (the real Swiss) and subbed margarine for butter, but kept everything else the same. I wish I had taken a picture of it before everyone gobbled it up. It was awesome!

Outstanding!! Took this to the “hot” hors d’oeuvre house for the neighborhood round robin and it was the hit. I’ve made this before but misplaced the recipe. Glad to find it here. Must be a WI thing?? Try it folks, you’ll love it!
