This is the second time I made this recipe. The first attempt didn't go so well, and I was trying to figure if I did something wrong. Turns out I used regular flour instead of self rising flour (thanks to the person who gave the tip "add baking powder to the flour", it was a big help). It was definetly better the second time around, but not quite like the my favorite restaurant, althought it was really good. After the chicken is fried, the breaded part seems to get a bit deflated or soggy-like, and I hadn't even put on the sauce.

I'm only reviewing the chicken itself, as I made sweet and sour sauce last week and was looking for a way to use up some of it. This is pretty easy, but time consuming, and not so healthy, so I'll save it for when I am desperately craving sweet and sour chicken. It does remind me of restaurant sweet and sour chicken, so now I know I don't have to order takeout for sweet and sour chicken anymore! One reviewer's comment about pancake batter helped me know when to turn the chicken pieces--looks like bubbles in pancake batter does, only I let it go a bit longer (until the sides were brown) bc it's chicken and I wanted to make sure it was cooked adequately. Thanks for the recipe!

Really good. I've made it twice. You can really play around with the recipe. I used tempura instead of making the flour mixture (quicker) and marinated my chicken in Orange and lemon juice and salt and pepper. You can add marichino cherry juice, orange juice, lemon juice, or whatever you can imagine. If you thin out the sauce too much just add more of the cornstarch mixture (equal parts of cornstarch and water).

It did taste good but I would not recommend it unless you had a deep fryer! I just felt so awful afterwards as this is full of sugar, grease etc.

We ate and ate and ate and ate and ate. This was that good. The chicken turned out perfectly. I made strips instead of chunks. I served this with jasmine rice and stir fry veggies. I didn't pour the sauce over so our leftovers wouldn't get soggy. I used all the juice from a 20 oz can of pineapple chunks and didn't adjust anything for a fabulous sauce. Didn't have white so I used cider vinegar, it turned out fine. I added about 1/4 c ketchup to the sauce to give it the reddish color since I didn't have orange food coloring. Thanks, Lindahu, this is a keeper!

Wow! Awesome. My husband loved it. I used "cake flour" instead of "self-rising flour" and I put more pineapple juice in. Will make this whenever I make Chinese food. Would be a great recipe for a special company-coming meal.

This was delicious. I was out of white vinegar so I substituted cider vinegar, and substituted 1/2 the sugar with apple jelly. And I used baking mix instead of self-rising flour. My husband loved it and wants it as a regular dinner.

This recipe is spectacular! I made this for dinner and paired it with egg fried rice from this site. I also sauteed the bell peppers and pineapple together and served as a side dish and these 3 together made an amazing oriental dinner. I won't ever go out for sweet and sour chicken again, which has always been my favorite chinese buffet food. I did not add the food coloring to the sauce and I used a small can of pineapple juice instead of the drained syrup, it turned out just fine. Even my picky kids loved it and also requested it in their lunch boxes tomorrow. It is a little bit of work, but not any more than any real homecooked meal and well worth the time and effort!

After seeing "labor intensive" a few times, I was skeptical to try this. I made it last night, and it was so easy! So good!!! Just like the restaraunt kind, but better! I usually buy sweet & sour sauce and add pineapple to it. Makes it a little easier for me, and still just as good. I do end up adding a little extra water to get a pancake batter consistancy...but it always turns out amazing!!

This really was delicious! My husband loved it. The chicken turned out exactly like a Chinese place. My only issue was the sauce. It was really watery, so I'm thinking since I scaled down the recipe that the measurements were off. I would most definitely make this again!

This was EXCELLENT! I will definitely make this again and highly recommend it. I thought it was much better than anything I've ordered at a restaurant- the sauce is not as overwhelming as they typically are. I did have one problem with this recipe, when I converted the serving size not everything converted correctly...some did, some didn't (I'm not sure if it was just a glitch in the website). I ended up making the full size, which was great for leftovers. Just make sure you check the numbers if you use the website converter.

I was going to throw chicken kebabs on the grill tonight but with the rain coming down crazy I changed gears. Searched for a new chicken recipe to try and came across this one! FABULOUS!!!! My husband kept coming through the kitchen to give me a kiss while he reached across me to the already cooked chicken pieces ha ha. My toddler came skipping into the kitchen yelling more please, more please, more please since I gave him two pieces to test out before dinner was done. We are having this with brown rice and assorted steamed vegetables on the side! Thanks for an awesome recipe! I will make this again!

This is really good and has the potential to be 5 stars by adding more flavor. It is moving in the right direction but needed a little more 'oomph' so next time I will probably add more pineapple juice and vinegar, and then test taste it before I serve it. I also chose to use red food color instead of orange just for personal preference, and I used a good number of drops of that, by the way, to achieve a nice red sauce instead of a pale colored sauce. Definitely will be making this again. Thanks

This was very good! I am so glad I tried it! It is as good, if not better, than the local Chinese restaurant makes! I will make this again, it is time consuming but the end result is worth it! I did add onions and carrots to the sauce.
