I'm rating it a 4 only because it made way to much and I didn't get to enjoy it much as I was the only one to eat it. But its a very high 4. This is the recipe I've been looking for for many years now. My mom had made this once and I loved it! She never made it again and couldn't find the recipe. I will definately make this again however I will reduce the portion to 2-3 and put the brown sugar after its done baking as it was hard to cut into it. Thanks for sharing and I almost guarantee the rating will go to 5 next time I try it.

First time I made this it was good (4 stars)-- a fancy mashed sweet potato, but the 2nd time I doubled the nuts and added an extra egg, and it was much better (5 stars) as it had more texture and was more like a casserole.

This is decadent. I love sweet potatoes, but I wanted something without the marshmallow topping. This recipe was every bit the treat that you would expect it to be for a holiday dinner. Sooooo yummy! (But it's not one I would use on a regular basis- it's a treat)

I would recommend twice as much topping. I liked this and even my husband, who hates yams/sweet potatoes, said he would eat this again. I would make this again to go with ham or turkey.

This casserole had a good taste and was pretty easy to make. It was a nice change from the regular sliced sweet potatoes that we usually have for Thanksgiving. Next time I will keep it a bit chunkier, because my family wasn't a big fan of the smoother texture.

This is a winner! A few changes due to my own "issues" with eggs. I couldn't make myself put eggs into the mix, I just don't know why it needed eggs. Also, I used honey to sweeten rather than the sugar in the potato mix because I wanted to really make the topping stand out! It had rave reviews and none was left at Christmas!!

The search is over, people! This is an amazing recipe. I've made several different versions of a sweet potato casserole over the years but now I have THE recipe. I did half the amount of white sugar in the base but it was still wonderful. My husband always eats a little bit of the sweet potatoes but for the first time ever, he went for seconds. The casserole is fluffy and light and the topping is the perfect complement; some are just TOO sweet. I am calling this the Goldilocks of Sweet Potato Casseroles because it is "just right." Also, I prepared it the night before but took it out of the frig about 30 minutes before I was ready to pop it in the oven. All I had to do was prepare the topping and in to the oven it went. YUMMY!

I need to put another rave review! I make this every year and always get asked for the recipe. I do cut back on the sugar b/c it is really sweet and I add marshmallows on top.

This was very good as the recipe is written - most in my family really enjoyed and now request me to prepare it for holiday meals. I however think the butter flavor is way too strong and overpowering, so I adjusted it to not crumble the butter on top. There is plenty in the casserole mixture itself. Depending on what your family enjoys you can make the call.

With all the great reviews, I had to try this. Adjusted the servings to 2 and the measurements automatically adjusts. I made this small serving to test the recipe. I used 1/2 the sugars (white/brown), You can try more - pour the sugar slowly so you can taste to sweeten as you like. I doubled the vanilla extract, added the 1-teaspoon cinnamon, and (didn’t have nutmeg to add If I did I'd include it), 1-Tablespoon dark syrup. I baked one big yam about 1 hr. and the peel off was easy. Followed directions as written, used elec. mixture to combine the yam and other mixtures. IMPORTANT: The white sugar is for potato mixture; the brown sugar is for the topping. It doesn't specify this in the recipe. The topping is the other half of listed ingredients of recipe. For the topping, I doubled the nuts. Used walnuts, finely chopped (would have preferred pecans if I had them). ALSO followed JOAN FOX's advice on the topping – “1) place the pecans on top first then 2) add the flour, brown sugar mixture on top. 3) Melt the butter/margarine and drizzle on top of this mixture. Does not need to completely cover, as it will flow over areas not covered as it cooks.” Due to this small serving for 2, I used a regular round cake-baking pan, which was perfect. RESULTS: Baked all for 30 minutes. Topping came out perfect and crunchy, sweetness was fine. Not too sweet, not too bland. Sweet yam came out light, fluffy. Divinely delicious and this little baked serving is all for me!

A friend tried this and loved it so we had at Thanksgiving. My family LOVED it. My husband asked for this from now on. I baked the potatoes in foil and then mashed as one reviewer suggested. Wonderful flavor and easy. Thanks for the new tradition.

This turned out pretty good. I did reduce the sugar a bit, and will probably reduce the amount of butter on the topping next time. I would make ths again.

Really, really good. (Although I made with about 6-7 cups yams and only 1/2 cup white sugar.) This will definitely become part of my thanksgiving repertoire.
