Original Recipe Yield 1 -8 inch square pan
 

Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 8 inch square baking pan.
  2. Melt butter over low heat.
  3. In a mixing bowl stir the cocoa and sugar together. Stir in the melted butter. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  4. Stir in the flour and salt and mix until smooth. Stir in the walnuts. Pour mixture into the prepared pan and spread into an even layer.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 to 50 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan. Let cool before cutting.
