Super-Duper Chili
SUBMITTED BY:
Elizabeth Mays
"No one ever guesses the 'secret ingredient' in this recipe that I created. A can of mushroom soup is what makes the chili so thick and creamy. Take this spicy concoction to a fall potluck or church dinner, and watch folks warm up to it! -Elizabeth Mays, Nunnelly, Tennessee"

I thought this recipe sounded interesting, and decided to try it out on my co-workers during a chili-cookoff potluck. My mother gave me a strange look when I mentioned the mushroom soup, but I just shrugged it off. I used 1 lb ground venison (my father had lots from a hunting trip) and 1 lb ground, hot polish sausage. Otherwise, I followed the recipe pretty closely. I like how you can make this hotter or milder based upon your preference just by reducing (or, gasp, increasing) the cayenne pepper, or choosing different spice levels of salsa and beans. The cream of mushroom soup and Velveeta gave this a nice, yummy creaminess. I made this the night before, threw it all in a crock pot, and then cooked it on low all night (about 10 hours). I then cooked it some more at work in the morning. This recipe, which I made on a lark due to its interesting ingredients, tied for second at our chili cook-off.

This chili was awesome! i think i might use a little less cheese next time, although good it just wasn't necessary. This chili can hold its own without so much cheese.

This is awesome chili! I used ground round only as I am not a fan of sausage and forgot the salsa and it turned out great - creamy, spicy, easy and delicious. I have been looking for a great chili recipe and finally found it -who would have thought cream of mushroom??? THANKS!

Very easy to make. My husband really liked this. It was a little to cheesy for me.....it didn't quite seem like chili b/c of that. That's an easy fix. I just won't add as much cheese next time. Thanks!

Mmmmm...My family and I LOVED this!! And I have been a stickler for my OWN chili recipe...thinking it was the best! I actually prefer this one now!! I made some minor changes like using diced tomatoes and green chili's instead of salsa, black beans instead of pinto and chili beans instead of kidney. All these changes were only because I didn't have the other ingredients. I also only used sausage for the meat. Very Good!

I just love this recipe! I have made it several times and it gets better everytime! I just used the 2 cans spicy chili beans, and not the other beans as it seemed to have way to many beans for me. Sauteed onion and garlic with the meats. Also used hot italian sausage for an extra kick! Great!

Awesome recipe. I put less cheese and a different type of sausage - you can't go wrong if you follow this one or change it slightly. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful recipe.
