1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup butter
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
3 tablespoons white sugar for decoration

DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, beat the confectioners' sugar with butter until smooth. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; mix into the batter until well blended. Cover and refrigerate dough for 2 to 3 hours.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Divide dough in half and roll 3/16 inch thick on floured surface. Cut dough with cookie cutters and sprinkle with white sugar. Place cookies onto greased baking sheets.
Bake for 7 to 8 minutes in the preheated oven, or until delicately golden.

This recipe I give 4 stars only because it was lacking a few ingredients. You need more flour or they will sink after you take them out of the oven. Add 3 cups flour and 2 tablespoons maple syrup.

Good cookie to make using cookie cutters. It spreads a lot while cooking so place them far apart on your baking sheet

it was such a light and airy cookie it doesn't have that salty flavor to it like most do i realy loved it.i had to hold something underneath cause they were so tendor not to mention it took almost 5 min to make.yummmmm

good recipe, i rolled mine a little to thick so they ended up a little doughy but had a good taste. my 5 yr old loved them with cream cheese frosting from this sight!!!

I didnt like these cookies for decorating w/ my kids, they fell apart to easy. I rolled the left over dough into a log, then rolled it into a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and ground pecans. Then I just sliced it to make the cookies.

Thank you for being here, I have used this recipe for many years and lost it in my move this year. I love it and my kids and grandkids say it wouldn't be Christmas without my sugar cookies

This recipe is the exact same as Mary's sugar cookies minus 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. I dont understand why this has gotten any negative reviews. These cookies are absolutely wonderful. They roll well, bake well, and taste perfect.
