I used butter in place of shortening and subbed 1/2 t almond extract and 1/2 t vanilla. I let the frosted cookies sit on counter overnight to set frosting before putting them away. Delicious flavor. This recipe is a keeper if you like lots of frosting instead of a light powdered sugar icing. A big winner with my family!

This is the perfect sugar cookie frosting! Sweet and creamy and it sets up enough so you can stack them without smearing the designs. Yet it is still soft when you bite into the cookie. I substituted the vanilla for almond extract. You could probably use lemon as well. I also used butter instead of shortening.

This is the BEST icing i've ever made. I made this exactly as the directions call for. It is very sweet, but paired with a bland sugar cookie it's just perfect. It's even better the next day when it has "set up". Will be keeping this one

Tastes okay, didn't stick to my cookies very well, it worked for frosting with the kids but anything needing more artistry would definitely require different ratios.
