This is my mother-in-law's recipe for traditional bread stuffing. Bread, pork and seasonings blend to create a perfect filling for the holiday bird. Use more bread if needed to create a stuffing that's moist, but not mushy.

I made this recipe over 45 years ago for the first pheasant I ever roasted--it was a special dinner I prepared to thank a wonderful sister and brother-in-law for all of their help when we bought our first home. To this day, it's a favorite with our friends and family when they come to visit.

I really enjoy the convenience of my bread machine and use it often. Of all the recipes I've made in it, this is one of the best. The wonderful aroma while this herbed bread is baking makes it hard to wait for a savory slice.

'This bread has a wonderful sourdough taste, but you don't need to bother with a starter,' relates Dawn Glynn of Twin Bridges, Montana. 'I received the recipe from a friend and now make it more than any other loaf in my bread machine.'

'This bread gets a flavor boost from minced onion and black pepper,' says Dale Rosenthal. 'It's very good toasted and served with steak or spaghetti,' suggests the Austin, Minnesota cook.
