I made this for a pot luck and received lots of compliments. It did go over well, and I had no leftovers (this recipe serves 10 people with modest serving sizes).
As far as preparing the dessert, I bought 5 oz. packages of lady fingers. I used one whole package plus two lady fingers out of the 3rd package. My trifle bowl seems of average size, so I don't know how you'd get away with 3 oz. of lady fingers? Instead of cool whip, I used real whipped topping made with heavy cream (can find in a can in the fridge section - some is low fat, I went all out and got the heavy cream stuff.) I made no other changes. It was good and is sure to please, but I didn't think it was one of the best desserts I've ever had.
