This salad is very good as written, but as others have noted it is way too sweet. I made it again and cut the sugar in half, added a cup of crumbled feta cheese, and it was to die for! Five stars and highly recommended, just watch the sugar.

My husband has never, EVER, asked for seconds of any salad except this one. It's divinely tasty and so easy. I made as written and was thrilled. Thanks!

VERY refreshing and tasty. It was the first thing to be done at a recent bbq for 30+ people. I suggest adding salt/pepper and a little lemon juice.

My friends are picky eaters, and many were surprised when I told them what was in the dressing... but they raved about it!

wow! This was an amazing salad. The only change was I used splenda instead of sugar, you can't tell the difference and it keeps the salad healthy . Next time I will only use 1/4 cup olive oil , I thought it was a little to heavy . Thanks for the recipe!

this is a great side for any heavy main dish. it is light and so full of flavor. personel preference is i toast the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, and sliced almonds. i also double up on the spinach and strawberries or cut the dressing in half if using the original recipe. too much dressing overwhelms the spinach. this will be a item for my kentucky derby party. others off this site are kentucky hot brown, kentucky derby pie know on here as run for the roses pie 3 and alcohol free mint juleps. you can add a jigger of bourbon if your guests want it in their glass. i previewed and made small potions of these in advance and this is my menu on saturday may 2nd, 2009

This was an excellent salad. The dressing was sweet and tangy and very mild in flavor. I used rice wine vinegar and onion powder instead of fresh onion. I only added a little fresh ground black pepper on this at the table. Thanks for a great recipe.

Fabulous recipe! The first time I made this, I toasted the sesame seeds and poppy seeds to bring out their flavor (definitely a must), added blue cheese, used toasted walnuts instead of toasted almonds (was out of almonds), and used 1/3 a cup of sugar. The second time I made this salad, I followed the recipe to a T. I will say that I definitely liked the first one more. Why? Well, 1/2 a cup of sugar is wayyy too much. Even with 1/3 or 1/4 cup of sugar, the dressing is sweet! Second of all, you gotta have some kind of crumbly cheese - blue and feta would work well. Third of all, you cannot refrigerate the salad dressing. I believe someone recommended that step, and in my opinion, they deserve a medal for that. If you refrigerate the salad dressing, it becomes a sugary, sesame seedy paste that is very hard to distribute evenly among the spinach leaves. Even though I prefer the salad with my variations, I still gave this recipe five stars because the original version is very tasty!

We LOVED this recipe. I have made it TWICE in the last 10 days! The only thing I did differently was I used slivered almonds & pan roasted them.

This salad is so tasty, specifically the dressing is out of this world delishhh. It is important to chill the dressing for a bit after mixing the ingredients together so that they blend with eachother well and mix well right before pouring it on the salad. My advice is not to skip the onion even if you don't like them because they play an important role in the taste of the dressing. You can hardly taste them in the dressing as the onion taste is not the dominant taste but they play an important role in marrying the sugar and vinegar together to create the specific taste this dressing has. For mine I halved the amount of sugar and it still came out super. I love the strawberries in the salad, but if you don't have them they can also be substituted for other fruits such as pineapple, oranges, or apples. A+ :)
