My husband wanted a strawberry cake this year, for his birthday, and after reading all of the positive reviews for this one, I decided to try it. I used 2 9-inch round baking pans, instead of 3 - and in my opinion, the batter is the perfect amount for 2 pans.. using 3 basically just gives you the option of having an extra layer for presentation. I followed the cake recipe, "as is", and thought it came out great... not too sweet, nor bland.. and it came out a nice bright pink color. However, I decided to use, "Caroline's Chocolate Fudge Frosting", also from this website, not only because of all the negative reviews for the frosting suggested for this cake, but my husband also wanted a chocolate frosting and the combination was delicious. I added sliced strawberries to the frosting in between the layers, as suggested by other reviewers.. Again, my husband and I thought this cake was great and I will be making it again in the future.
