This does bring back memories. My mother made these. She said that it was a depression era dish that her mother made. I think I will make them the next time I need a real comfort food. Thanks for the reminder.

Tastes like a chunky tomato soup. I think it might be better on a cold winter day for lunch, but the family didn't like it as a side with our meatloaf dinner.

I just tried this recipe and I really like it. I used a can of Mexican style stewed tomatoes because that's what I had in the pantry. My mom used to make something like this when I was a kid (way back in the dark ages)too. She loved tomatoes and served them as side dishes lot's of different ways. I'll make this again for sure!

These are delicious served with meatloaf! I have been making them for years. The only thing I do differently is make several smaller dumplings and sometimes add basil to the batter.
