This is a hearty, robust pie that is a crowd-pleaser. Cubes of meat are sauteed in oil until brown and glistening, and are combined with carrots, potatoes, turnips and onions in a deep casserole. Bitter ale and water are heated with a bit of cornstarch until nice and thick, then poured over the meat and veggies. A round of puff pastry is fitted over the top of the dish, and then the pie is baked for until golden brown.

Seasoned and floured cubes of meat are slowly roasted in the oven until tender. Extra flour and seasonings are added to the pan juices to thicken them a bit. Then everything is put into a pie plate that 's then topped with a round of pastry. Bake it until it 's golden brown, and serve it with mounds of mashed potatoes and a green vegetable.

Cubes of beef kidney and steak are roasted with onions, potatoes and seasonings until tender. Flour is added and the meat is cooked a bit longer until all the juices have thickened with the flour. This savory mixture is turned into a 3-quart casserole, topped with a round of pastry and baked in the oven for 30 minutes.

For this savory pie, ground beef, onions, veggies, herbs and spices marry perfectly: Everything is sauteed together and then combined with broth and tomato paste, and simmered until ready to pour into a prepared pie crust. The hearty filling is then topped with fluffy mashed potatoes, sprinkled with Cheddar cheese, and baked.

Cornstarch and water are added for thickening, and then this savory filling is arranged in a pie crust, topped with another crust and baked. Slice and serve it with mashed potatoes.
