DIRECTIONS
In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the flour, salt, pepper and paprika; mix well. Add beef, a few pieces at a time, and shake to coat.
In a skillet, cook beef and onion in oil until beef is browned and onion is tender. Add broth to the skillet. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 45 minutes. Uncover; stir in the potatoes. Cook until heated through. Spoon meat mixture into a greased 7-in. pie plate or 2-cup baking dish.
For the crust, in a bowl, combine the flour and salt; cut in the butter and shortening until crumbly. Gradually add water, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Roll out pastry to fit baking dish. Use a small cookie cutter to cut a shape in the center of the pastry; place pastry over meat mixture. Trim pastry to 1/2 in. beyond edge of dish; flute edges. Brush with milk. Bake at 375 degrees F for 35-40 minutes or until pastry is lightly browned on edges.

This was very good! Now mind you I made this and it was 90 degrees out and I don't have air in the kitchen. So this is what I did. I made the crust first, I useally don't use butter in my cust and with this pie it added a richness that really worked with the meat. And then because it was so hot I put it in the fridge while I made the filling, and this made the cust much easyer to work with. As far as the filling the only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because it tasted to much of flour, so the next time I make it I will make sure I am more carefull with the flour. I did not let it simmer for 45 min and the meat was very tender. Other than that it was really good and I can't wait to make it on a cooler night

I cheated and used a ready-made pie crust, but would like to rate it 5 stars anyway. I had doubled the beef/onion mixture to feed my family of four, ended up being only two of us, so I made two little pies in a muffin tin, with a top and bottom crust. Wow, this was good! I have left over beef/onion/gravy mix, so lucky me, I can easily make more tomorrow!

This was pretty good. I used peppers instead of potatoes though. It just seemed like starch over kill. I sauteed the meat, onions and peppers all together and then added the broth. I only let it simmer until it was thick instead of 45 minutes. Again I thought it was over kill. I also used a pie crust under and over it. It turned out great. A little bland. I would use more spices next time.
